Some of the comments here you would think Netflix was asking for your first born in payment.

IMHO Netflix is a value at even $15 a month with the wealth of content they offer. And they still allow you to share your account anyways.
Of course. But most here aren't satisfied with anything unless it's free. Most feel they are due everything simply because they breath. Fairness isn't something to be considered. Here, something bad and negative can be found for anything and everything.

Let's not forget those who think Apple should be destroyed because of the recent child labor cobalt thing.

I do not expect anything to be free, and like I said, I'm happy to pay more, as long as I'm getting more/better service/product. In this case, I am not. I can also understand a "slight" increase as time goes on for the same service, but a 25% increase to keep what I already have and have been paying for a long time is just a slap in the face. Yes, it is small, but as a percentage, it is not. It just is not standard for an increase to exceed even 10%. Cost of living is a mere 3%.

I used to have a US account but now have an NZ one because it's cheaper that way. You can switch to local billing by cancelling your account and then reactivating it without using a VPN or DNS proxy.

It's that easy? And I'll have access to my viewing history still? That's the big issue, and for an extra $1 or $2 a month in currency differences wasn't worth switching. Now for about 50% more I'm willing to start from scratch!

I mean Apple's own TV streaming app or atleast Starz/Amazon..so I don't have to waste my time with Netflix anymore
Oh, you mean like a TV.app the App called TV xD

I agree, some consolidation would be nice

I don't really mind but that being said, I'd like to see newer movies on there then. It's becoming a lot of original programming and older or B-Rated movies. I'd like to see them add newer blockbusters honestly.

My only complaint is the movie selection. Not enough new releases, which is a studio issue. The price hike? Did people really think the $8.99 price would last forever? Do you really think you'd be paying that rate until 2026? No. New contracts with studios get more expensive and I would never expect a company to absorb those costs. It's less than one Starbucks drink a month.

Mobile users.

First, Netflix defines "HD" as 720p or better. Nearly every smartphone out there today supports 720p resolution or better. Thus, even mobile users would want the HD plan.

Second, how many people do you think watch Netflix only on their smartphones, and never on a tablet, laptop, or tv?

Let me rephrase:
Mobile users with 3G/4G data capped plans.

It's probably treated as more of a change to "regular" pricing vs. "introductory" pricing (which was around for a long time to build up the ranks and spread the word and all that). Also, in the sense of the increase, since the increase itself happened some time ago, and it's just that it hasn't applied to users that have subscribed before right away, it's more or less something that has been spread out over time in that sense given that older users were able to pay the older lower price during that period instead of the higher price right away (I guess they could have increased it little by little every few months until it got to its final stage, but that doesn't seem as good or practical).

I really dislike pricing tier based on content resolution. That discourages the pace of innovation.

I frankly would prefer more al-la-carte style pricing: (1) family, (2) classic titles (titles older than few years), and (3) new titles.

Netflix has stepped their game up with original programming but they still lack when it comes to newer movies. Continuing to raise prices better show improvement in that area or I will soon be canceling my subscription.

They have signed a deal with Disney to be the exclusive streaming service during the "pay TV" window.

600 hours of original programming in 2016 and an exclusive with Disney isn't "more"?

I don't think you're going to get many that sympathize with you on this one. To be fair, you didn't ask for any. I also think Netflix is offering more/better service/product with their original content, 4K content, and continued ability to share accounts. Whether or not the value proposition is worth the cost of an extra 6.5 cents a day to you is a personal decision probably best left to you and your accountant.:D

To this --> "... but as a percentage, it is not". Please don't. That completely ignores common sense and context.

I'd like to see additional blockbusters as well. Those blockbusters cost money (and not the same money in every country either), and if you look at some of the responses in this thread, money's in super, super short supply.:D

I am only keeping Netflix because my kids but I keep wondering if it is that much value. I like Narcos and House of Cards but besides it I don't watch much. I will probably end up canceling and just subscribe for a month to binge the two new season shows above and then cancel again. I wish their movie catalog was better in order to keep it.

So. Freakin. True! This here is a 25% and 50% increase, respectively, and the 25% increase is not to force you to a better product, it is to keep the same product. Supreme Lameness! I have no problem paying more for a better product, and better services, but to pay more to keep the same product, by a 25% margin, is pretty unethical, in my opinion.

This is the only price increase I can think of since they started the online service at $7.99 no? They've continually increased content and have developed a lot of their own content as well over the past several years. It's a vastly different (much improved I'd say) product than when I first signed up for $7.99 years ago.

Also, if you really want to use your 3% inflation as an example, starting at $8, over 7 years, you'd just about be at $10.

Ive been paying $8 a month since 2007. Since then they have added streaming, great original content, and HD video. I will gladly pay an extra $2 without batting an eye.

Who is the non-HD plan for? Is someone out there rocking an SD CRT tv with a media streamer attached?

The market for DVD is still larger than for bluray. Most people don't really see the difference, especially with a good up converter. They'd rather pay less and get a (to them) indistinguishably inferior image.

I get bent over backwards for Xfinity Cable TV because I watch sports. I wish I could watch live HD Sports without Cable.

"Given these members have been with us at least 2 years," the company points out, "we expect only slightly elevated churn. In 2016, we plan to launch over 600 hours of original programming, up from about 450 hours in 2015."

Translation: We as a company don't mind taking advantage of our oldest and most loyal customers. Even though they helped us get a foothold as a company it's time to start milking them too.

The price increase doesn't bother me, but as a Business Professor it irks me to hear executives saying this kind of crap. I would have said; "These are some of our oldest and most loyal customers, and we think they will be willing to stick with us as we raise the rates that we have held artificially low for them for sticking with us. The new rates reflect more closely the actual value of the service, so the vast majority will continue as loyal customers who love our service."

But that's just me. Churn. What a nice way to say leaving because you got screwed.

It sucks for professional sports as we have no teams but the Jazz. But I want to watch more than just what is played on CBS, and FOX for NFL.

NBA, MLB, NHL are all available on the Apple TV without a pay TV subscription. Heck you can also get tennis and cricket too.
