I don't read into what YayAreaLiving said as actively wishing for bad things as much as just hoping people realize they're not getting value for their money and force Netflix (by quitting) to actually give more value (like 1080p on $10+ plans). It's called voting with your wallet. Why should I be forced to pay for a 4-stream package just to get decent image quality?I mean, I get not liking what they're offering, but why actively wish for bad things to happen to them? If enough people don't like what they're offering, it'll happen naturally.
Fair point. Perhaps a better interpretation.I don't read into what YayAreaLiving said as actively wishing for bad things as much as just hoping people realize they're not getting value for their money and force Netflix (by quitting) to actually give more value (like 1080p on $10+ plans). A great film is hard to beat. And it really feels like a lot of shows are milking it to reach even 6 episodes. But if the subject matter is good, and the storytelling is great, a 3-part is not a problem for me.720p resolution would be good enough for me (resolution is the least important metric to me re content enjoyment) if the Netflix shows were of a high calibre that would be one thing. In general they are not, however. The vast majority of their docu-series are maybe ten episodes. Documentary film format is miles superior—respects the viewer’s time and forces the filmmakers to make better content, by them having cut all unnecessary scenes. When they can only include the best stuff in a 1h 45m - 2h 15m documentary film this compels the filmmaker to trim down and refine the work. The viewing audience wins.
If Netflix cared about quality they would take note of this, but they like many of these tech companies when they get bigger they begin to run their enterprise based on clicks, algorithms and manipulations. They reap what they sow.
The revelation that the cheapest tier (which isn't even available right now, and is cheaper than any current options), isn't going to have all the perks of the more expensive tiers, is something which a) is surprising to you and b) is something you didn't expect? This just confirms it. I am still not going back to Netflix.
That's only because of all the password-sharing, definitely not to do with subscribers leavingHopefully, Netflix will continue to lose its subscribers in the coming days/months.
Exactly!I want to like Netflix more than I do. But the simple fact is: they are way too expensive and 480 is a slap in the face. I didn't share password, and they are not the only fish in the see. I have Amazon Prime, HBOmax and Apple TV, and together they amount to about a Netflix subscription. They are good, but not that good.
We're in a period of transition here - at least in the US. For a long-time, it was cable. Which sucked. Then for a time, there was Netflix as the only real option for streaming decent content, along with some ok stuff on Hulu (which has gotten MUCH better these days).
Then the content makers entered the game, and we got HBO, Disney, Paramount, Peacock. Apple joined the party too. And now we have a mess.
It's going to continue like this for a while. Then we will get mergers and consolidation and then it will be back to bundles and incentive pricing (followed by a bump up after 12-months. Just like cable..
sheesh...

I was right there with you on being annoyed that one can’t get a non-family 4K plan, but pirating is the looting of the digital age - instead of “I’m so upset about this social issue that I deserve a ‘free’ microwave oven”, now it’s “these prices are too high so now I deserve a ‘free’ movie / tv show”. No, you don’t. If you want to hit them where it hurts, then don’t subscribe, or cancel your subscription. Looting some of their products on the way out just loses you any moral high ground you might have had - their prices dont give you the moral justification that you think it does. If you don’t like the price of something at a brick & mortar store, do you just shoplift it?It also makes me angry that I have to pay for what is essentially a family plan just to get 4K HDR quality when I live on my own. They need to just give everyone 4K HDR and have the plans based on simultaneous streams or something. I’m getting ready to get back on my pirate ship to be honest, I’m done with them reaching further into my wallet all the time.
