Quite happy with O2 here, 2.8mb+ down and 1.6mb+ up all the time on 3G and great 2g coverage.

Three don't work at all for me at my parents or work so are not an option for me

What do you mean by 'rolling contract'? Also, the only thing that worries me about the deal from Orange is that you have to pay £25 just for a month. I know there are more expensive ones out there for the iPhone, but you can get at least £10 cheaper from Three and O2.

Also i've just done the Coverage checker on all networks that i preferred and these were the results. The 1st one is Orange, 2nd is O2 (btw the white squared lined spaces with the blue squares next to them is where the writing of the places where i live is, i just erased them out for privacy use) and the 3rd is Three.

Which one is the best?

Quoting myself... What is the best coverage for me from those coverage checkers?

I have been with 02, Orange, Vodafone, and Three over the years. Never really had to deal with the Vodafone customer service to be honest. O2 and Orange do have decent customer service though, Orange especially have kept me a happy customer for around 4 and a half years now with any issues dealt with reasonably. Plus there insurance department even managed to ship a new phone to me on Christmas eve.

Three however, will never have me as customer again. They have absolutely abysmal customer service and billing department, plus their coverage isn't as good as it gets praised for being. I urge people not to use them. If you ever have the misfortune to need their customer service you will be in for a headache.

I had no issues with O2 customer service, you cannot make blanket statements like that.

I've never had an issue with 3 mobiles customer service (only ever called then to tell them my PAC), so all I see is a load of people just spewing up whatever their fellow sheep are saying.

but honnestly unless your are one of those people who calls to tell the network there is a dodgy looking cow near their mast that you think is affecting your ability to take a picture from your phone, how often would you call to even remotely notice the customer service?

what I have always found is the people who get and complain about the poor customer service are the people who ring up and have the tone "GET THIS DONE NOW OR I WILL KILL YOU" or somehow think they are a higher lifeform over the person they have rung up for help, and expect to be treated like a god whereas the person on the other end is no more than a petty thief.

I urge posters not to listen to the quoted poster. While 3 may have their call centres in South Africa and occasionally not be the easiest to understand, they do try to be helpful and most people don't have to deal with them too much. Their quality of service and coverage is excellent, in my opinion.

3 are the worst for cust ser.
Have mobile broadband with them - they are cack.

OP disregard all the idiots who keep on going on about customer service. Chances are, you will never have to run into them. Three is a top notch network and I've not had a SINGLE problem with them.

O2 may be great as well, but it has a poorer 3G coverage AND their contract is abysmal compared to Three.

Ok, ill proberly go with three but is my three coverage any good according to the checker? (For the result of the checker, it's the 21st post down from this thread).

yeah all of 3s network is 3G so acording to the pic you will have coverage all over where it says.

the pic over my house looks pretty much the same as that and I get perfect 3G signal, so going on that I would wager that you should get good 3G coverage.

Funny thing about this thread is that the people putting forward their arguments genuinely look like they're working for their respective network employers.

Not true in the slightest. I've spoke to them twice only. Once because of poor coverage, and they blamed my Nokia even though it worked perfectly with another network sim and the second time to cancel. And as you can see from my earlier post, that went down well. NOT!

They're cheap for a reason. Poor network, poor customer service

As I said earlier, the coverage checkers are for guidance only. From personal experience they don't mean squat! You can have a dead spot right in the middle of what should be a strong coverage area for your chosen network.

I don't work for O2 or any network for that matter, but I would urge caution about going with '3'. Not so bad if it is a rolling monthly contract but I would hate to see you stuck with them for 24 months if you took out a full contract.

By the way, ignore people who tell you to ignore people who talk about customer service! At some stage you will need to talk to CS even if it is just to port your number over or query a bill. Someone above said they come from South Africa but it sounds more like India to me and it drives me nuts having to spell out every word I say just because the person on the other end isn't from the UK. I have also experienced getting transferred 5 times in one phone call which took nearly an hour and cost me about £8. On that occasion the outcome was that they refused to repair my daughter's Nokia 6700 for an LCD display fault even though this was a well known design flaw and it had been repaired previously for the same issue! They used the old 'water damage' excuse to disavow all responsibility... I'm an electronics engineer so I took the phone apart myself and replaced the screen. There was no sign of water anywhere and the new screen fixed the phone. Wow! Shock horror!

Did you look into the thing I mentioned about '3' filtering the internet and blocking websites which they deem to 'Adult' for you? Note that this doesn't mean porn in all cases, the filters have been known to prevent medical students accessing medical websites. Also, did you look into the annoying call/data connection drop when moving between 3G and 2G cells?

Anyway, rant over, I'm sure you'll love your phone (I certainly do) but I would again urge you to get some free SIM cards and evaluate the coverage in all your regular locations before you decide who to go with. Unless O2 is vastly worse than '3' for coverage/speed etc, I would go with O2/Tesco to avoid the '3' CS experience.

Good luck,
Craig.

FYI I don't work for Orange :)

ha I don't work for 3 either as I'm a firm believer on only buying phones sim free without all the network junk and switching networks whenever a better value deal comes along (I've been on 4 different networks in the past 2 years )

I'm just saying I havent had a problem with either the network quality or coverage or the customer service, perhaps I will when a better deal comes along and try to switch networks, but until I experiance this 'bad' customer service I have no complaints with them.

I guess seeing as 3 have the 1 month contract on the iPhone 4 of £15 for that month, i can always test them out and if there crap, then ill change to the Pay & Go on O2. Is that a better idea?

yes do this, since you have said your getting a sim free phone there is no lock-in of any kind

FYI to bypass the settings, when you enter the APN settings for the internet instead of doing these settings:

Name - 3
Apn - three.co.uk
proxy - not set
port - not set
Username - not set
Password - not set
Server - not set

do these instead and you have no filter
