nothing quite like ODing on caffeine... :) (note: overdose does not necessarily refer to killing yourself, just inducing completely unwanted effects...)

I had a similar experience a couple of years ago. I was up for an exam in Statistics and found out a day before the exam that I didn't have a clue... none what so ever... so I pulled an "all-nighter", doing old exam problems 20 hours straight, while drinking coca-cola and coffee. This was back when I still was chewing nicotine gum and I was "chain-chewing" through the night and exam. I even took a couple of caffeine pills... at the end of the exam I was, quite literally, unable to stand still...

When I met my favourite teacher just after the exam, he looked at me - quite worried - and actually asked dead seriously if I was on speed or something. Luckily for me I was well known for my nicotine gum so when I laughed and explained to him that I "just" was a couple of milligrams shy of a sugar-nicotine-caffeine overdose, he was visible relieved... but I probably were quite close to my limit...

After this I cut back a bit on, especially, caffeine during "all-nighters"... ;)

I went to Starbucks yesterday morning before school to buy some coffee. I was so tired, so I just asked the guy "How many shots of espresso can fit in a venti cup." It turns out to be 20 so that's how many I bought and drank. What ever you do, never be an idiot and copy what I did. During 1st and into 2nd period of school, I was SO hyper and I started twitching and being crazy like. Only 2 hours of hype. After that I completely crashed. I could barely stand up and I felt so nauseous, but couldn't throw up anything. Still into today, I don't feel so well so I stayed home.

Just warning you guys that more than 4 shots/ounces of raw espresso wont do anything more than give you a major crash. Not to mention I loaded it with sugar until no more could fit in the cup.

So were you anything like this? http://homestarrunner.com/sbemail91.html
:p

Thats kinda funny my friend took 3 caffiene pills to stay up and he had the same result.

On last years school ski trip, this kid drank 11 red bulls in like 5 minutes. He was soooooo hyper and was like shaking. Then he crashed.

:p well it's 55 cents per shot. So it would have cost 11 bucks, but he only charged me 4 and some change. I pay more for my regular drink (triple white mocha).

I have a sudden calling to do this. I'm pretty coffee and sugar resistant, and I want to feel the kick that more caffeine-sensitive people enjoy. Ever watch "Over the Hedge"? Hammy is my hero.

(Luckily, 20 shots of expresso isn't anywhere near how much caffeine it takes to kill you.)

I cant believe they even let you do that.

A shot of espresso is supposed to be 1 per customer per order.

hmmm. no.

i get a venti cafe americano every day. its 4 shots. and its on the menu like that, so..... i think your 1per customer is incorrect.

and i got 2 extra shots one time (6 total) - and mind you i drink one of these each day with the normal 4 shots - and i was actually quite uncomfortable with drinking 6. it was just too much. i really dont even believe you drank 20. sorry. attention story maybe?

Don't know, the OP did seem to have stomached 20 and have consequences. I would call bluff if he claimed to be all right after his 20, but it looks like he started freakin' after he had finished his shots. Plus, some people are a lot less sensitive to the effects. I can't even feel anything with 1 or 2 cups. Not good for my wallet.

... a single shot has the potency equivalent to ? 1 cup of ordinary black coffee...

A serving of espresso has less caffeine than a regular cup of drip coffee. About ~15-20mg less. But at 20x that, I don't think the difference really matters anymore.

edit: fyi. If you would like more bang out of your caffeinated beverage, before the caffeine is all broken down by your body (within 4-6hrs), try drinking some grapefruit juice.

since i don't mind cool/cold coffee even i took my time to drink that every day, usually over the span of a couple/few hours and it worked well for me.
That was the routine that I took to when I was a Uni student. Took my time (a few hours) finishing a 12-16oz moca/latte. Most I ever had was 4 shots at once.

My Graphic Design teacher had a caffeine-induced seizure when he was a student at Kent State. He was pulling an all-nighter plus.

Well if he drinks it all quickly, his body may not react quickly enough to notice until several minutes later.

I once had 8 shots of some sort of liquor (my friend bought them at like $1 US per shot) in a span of around 1 minute, and I only felt it after an hour. I was pretty much sleeping after that. Another hour later, and I was throwing up.

So again, you just don't know.

I just showed my roommate (who works at Starbucks) and she had a good laugh over it. Says your nuts.

I love coffee personally. That was a little much though. I try to limit myself to 1 cup a day regardless of how tired I am. 2 cups if it is an occassion or dinner with family/friends.

I've never experienced any of the addictive effects everyone here is talking about with caffine. usually, I have a cappuccino every morning during school, then nothing during breaks and I feel no different the first morning I wake up without one. I guess it just effects different people differently; but it basically has no effect on me. I can even drink an espresso right before going to bed.

and yea, 20 shots is crazy.

It is funny you mentioned how it does affect people differently. I've never felt more attentive or lucid after a cup of coffee, however, a single cup will easily keep me awake for over a span of a day. This is not always the case, but it is common for me. Especially when I had not had coffee in a very long time.

Anyone else really sensitive to caffeine?

9 shots

Alright, day out with some friends stopped by starbucks to see a cousin that works there. I got 4 shots of espresso in a java chip. Didn't seem to do much, so went to the mall for couple hours, met some nice girls from ATL which I hope to see again. After they left to go back home, went back to starbucks, I figured I'd see how much espresso I could handle so I got a java chip with 5 shots. Nine shots in 3-4 hours time. Would've went back to make it an even 10-14, but I listened to my friends.

Espresso will make you crash and burn, but for me I come out of it fairly quickly and I'm back going again. It is 2:50am at the moment, I had the espressos 12 hours ago, and I'm wide awake. Yippie! ;)

I didn't have a bad experience, unless you count not being able to sleep. Though I am sad I can't text morgan or natalie, stupid phone, hopefully I'll have it fixed in couple days or get me a new one.

Have a nice first day at school natalie and morgan :)

Go to Miami and get some expresso made by a true cuban. Two shots and you can sit in a chair and listen to your heart race!

I have a friend who drank 20 oz of Cuban coffee down in Miami; he didn't know how strong it was...He was up for 3 days straight afterwards. :D

Wait, you have one everyday and don't believe you are addicted? How would you tell? Stop drinking for a week and see if you have withdrawal.

I was visiting Belfast once and went to a club where they only had mixed drinks. I had about 12 red bull vodka's, each one having a full can of red bull. When I got back to my hotel, I thought I was going to have a heart attack. Took me hours and hours to get to sleep...

wow....a 4 year old thread come to life again!

and I remember this thread from when it was first posted :p

I cant believe they even let you do that.

I mean, you might have actually done some damage to yourself, though I fail to see what or how.

I just hate caffiene!

I never drank coffee, tastes like poo to me, but I guess from where I stand I just see another coffee junkie acting the fool for their legal drug of choice.

Not true. A medium standard Starbucks espresso drink has 2 shots. A large has 3.

Edit: crap... Just noticed this is a zombie thread. Someone kill it.
