Why are there no "Pro" video cards available?
Why did so many people give this a negative rating??? Maybe they JUST got the old model. Or it's that swarm of FanDroids at it again
.
Why are there no "Pro" video cards available?
People were hoping for an actual update. USB3, esata, more RAM slots, etc.
I'm pretty sure this question has been asked before, but I can't find a straight answer and I really need some info before I pull the trigger.
I'm about to start a "career" in video production (ads, short commercial videos, music videos, indie films, etc) and I'm really torn between the 3.33GHz hexacore MP and the 2.4GHz octocore MP.
We work with Canon 5Ds, 7Ds and 550Ds and I use FCS 3, Adobe After Effects, Cinema 4D, etc, so I'd like to know what MP would be the best solution for this type of work.
Thanks!
I wish I had something that required that much computing power!
I was a potential Mac Pro customer until they announced the new prices.
$ 5000 onwards is too expensive for me.
Im now settling for mbp i7, 8 gb Ram, running Logic Studio 9. It makes sense to use the balance money (If one has any) to buy an Analog synth or better audio gear !
Lets hope Apple prices its 2011 Mac Pros cheaper. Audio Pros also find it difficult to afford and justify this kind of a computer.![]()

we need the high-end cards. I have a FX4800 in the latest MacPro here and its still not fast enough for my needs.A lot of the high end Quadro cards that are on the market aren't for video, they are more for 3D graphics, imaging, architecture, and so forth. Some video pros may need them, but not many...
My self employed friends just write off their Macs a business expense.
and again NO BLU RAY! option drive...![]()

FWIW, I just received an email from Apple that my 12-Core MacPro shipped from China and is due for delivery Friday, the 20th. Earlier than the predicted shipping date of the 23rd.![]()
That doesn't mean it's not expensive, even for a business expense. It still needs to be paid for.
At 8:20 am., US/Eastern, today, I ordered the following config:
Custom configuration
Two 2.93GHz 6-Core Intel Xeon
16GB (8x2GB)
ATI Radeon HD 5870 1GB
Mac Pro RAID Card
1TB 7200-rpm Serial ATA 3Gb/s
1TB 7200-rpm Serial ATA 3Gb/s
1TB 7200-rpm Serial ATA 3Gb/s
1TB 7200-rpm Serial ATA 3Gb/s
One 18x SuperDrive
Magic Mouse.
Apple KB User's Guide.
COUNTRY KIT.
Ships: Aug 23
Delivers: Aug 26
Note the ship date! It still says 7-10 days if I go back and mock up another order.
In the past, I have been able to determine which item is constrained by toggling them one at a time, but in this case no matter which configuration items I choose, it still says it will ship in 7-10 days, which is OBVIOUSLY incorrect based on the ACTUAL estimated ship-date, above.
Well, now... I got a ship notice for 8/18 with delivery for this Friday, 8/20.
Since I placed the order on 8/9, that means Apple really did deliver on the promise of "Ships 7-10 days" -- it shipped in only 8 or 9 days, depending on how you look at it, because 8/18 in China is 8/17, here.
STOKED!
