@OP I wish I'd seen this 2 weeks ago when I ordered my MBP. Good catch though!

Do you read your posts before you submit?

Anyway, for the super price conscious, the deal from MacConnection is slightly better if you don't mind waiting for the rebates.

how so? Macconnection has the same computer for $1049 and you have to have to wait for a rebate. not only is it more expensive but MC gives you the savings instantly without waiting.

lol the MC confused me at first
folks MC = microcenter, and macconnection = macconnection :D

well it all depends on your state.
for me, i lve in CA, and our taxes are ridiculous. the smarter way is theorugh MacConnection, but im going through MC because its quicker and i dont have to go through rebates and all 9who knows if it shows up even!?)
the difference in price is not that much even, its pretty much a couple 20's more (for CA) but still a great price.

here is MC's return policy:
If you prefer, you may return items you ordered from Micro Center Online® to your local Micro Center® Store in person. To return the items, you will need to bring:

The item and the original packaging. Include all contents of the original package such as manuals, discs, cables, etc. If all contents are not included, you will be charged an Open Box fee on certain categories of products, as described in the Return Policy.
Credit or Debit Card used to purchase your order
Complete packing list that came with your order

When returning an item to your local Micro Center® Store, we reserve the right to decline a return if it is not in "like new" condition.

Take your items, credit / debit card, and the packing list to the Customer Support Department. Any of our Associates in Customer Support will be glad to process your return.

while MacConnection strictly says once you get the laptop its yours, dont even bother us about problems we cuz we dont care!

so technically speaking MC is much better, but price wise, it all depends on location location location!~

For a few days the local Microcenter had several 'open box' 2.4 Ghz 13" MacBook Pros for $849.

I managed to grab one (they lasted for only a couple hours). Like the previous poster said, it's a new laptop whose only deficit was that the box was open. They certainly made my Christmas for me.

A few days later they bumped the price up to $899 (they still have 4), and that is still an incredible deal.

They've also got some great deals on open box iMacs and MacBook Airs.
