The times I had to use AppleCare it was definitely worth it. The repair costs would be in the thousands of $.
Again, it is one of those things that if you don't have it and end up not using you are happy for saving that money but if the opposite happens.....

If nothing else, you'll probably be able to get a battery out of it close to the 3 year point.

That would subject to the battery health falling below 80% right?

I’m debating getting Applecare for the new 16” as well. In the past, I purchased it and have used it but it seems like more recent Apple purchases have been more and more reliable. I haven’t had a need for repair in years now.

What makes me question it is the fact that this is a new design. New (old) keyboard, etc.

I have always purchased it but never had a chance to use because issues started to surface after 3 years when the warranty is over.

I am leaning towards not buying it. It's close to $500 here in Canada!

My credit card extends the warranty an additional 2yrs so i'll be covered for 3yrs.

For accidental damage, its not like the Macbook can never be repaired without AppleCare+ you just need to outlay more money to get it fixed. I asked Apple and for the last gen 15" screen it was about $700 for a replacement so if you factor in the AppleCare+ fee plus the deductible you are getting pretty close to this amount - for screen repair. Any other types of accidental repairs would be much more however.

I would recommend AppleCare+ if you cannot extend warranty through your credit card or you want the added peace of mind for accidental coverage or you plan on selling the device within the coverage period for better resale.

Just realized for Mac, there is no express replacement programme for Apple Care+ unlike iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch

I added AppleCare for my MBP 16. I work from home and use my own laptop for work. The company IT support is overseas, so I like the reassurance of having AppleCare+ support for 3 years and the ability to take it to the local Apple store to get rapid support if a problem occurs.

The only possible miscalculation I’ve made is that I upgraded the RAM so it’s a BTO configuration, which I’ve since read means I’d need to wait longer for a replacement if a serious problem occurs.

But im not sure if this is a problem just until next gen releases. For now they have stock units but probably in one or two gens your unit, doesn't matter if stock one or bto should be build anyway.

I factor in AppleCare+ into the price of every Apple product. It’s a no-brainer to get it. I would’ve already bought it for my upcoming 16” if it wasn’t taking Goldman Sachs so long to reflect the payment I made on my Apple Card.

MacBooks are the only products for which I get AppleCare. The out of warranty repair cost for these laptops can easily skyrocket into thousands.

I always have bought Apple Care +. However, I am seething at Apple. I bought a 15in Macbook Pro with AppleCare +. I found out after they extended the screen warranty which would have covered the screen defects I experienced. The coating is coming off and within a year, you see small a light line where it looked like keys touched the screen

These are defects nearly like a recall since they extend the screen warranty to four years.

Any reason why Apple could not let AppleCare+ buyers that they extend the warranties for screen defects. I would have jumped to get the repair covered.

They have no trouble sending me a millions emails for new products etc

I now really question the value of there is coverage. I have bought 4 laptops, a new phone or 2 every year, Apple watches etc always with AppleCare+.... I have used AppleCare + once to cover a defective screen on a 13in model.

The laptop repairs are really expensive so I would likely buy again but I give pause now since the cost of AppleCare + is getting very expensive as well

I get AC+ for basically everything now. It gets me the level of service I used to expect with the free tier.

I had it with my now 10 year old Mac book....and I needed it for the screen. Would've been $899 so it save me $600 or so dollars.

The cost has gone up and I'm on the fence too...

I purchased it then canceled on pickup when they (3 different reps) told me that there is a 3 year warranty (Australia).

I'm somewhat careful, although I did drop my previous MacBook Pro, had AppleCare but no AppleCare+ back then so I had to fork out $1,278.30 AUD to repair.

First MBP - Purchased AppleCare, HDD replacement. Though can't remember if it was within the first year.
Second MBP 17" - Never used purchased AppleCare.
Third MBP 13" Early 2015 - Purchased AppleCare, Screen replacement (key markings on screen) but was a know issue during the 1st year warranty. I also asked them to check the battery near the end of AppleCare, but they ran diagnostics, showed me some graph and it was fine.
Current 16" - I hope I don't drop it.

Edit: First MBP, HDD replacement.
