So I have tried to watch a movie from my 17" macbook pro 2011 through minidsplay port to dvi adapter and then a dvi adapter to hdmi lead which is connected to my tv and cannot get any audio through it. What am I doing wrong or do I need to get another adapter.

I ordered a Kanex V2 from Amazon, but I haven't received my computer yet to test it. It was about $21, and supports video and audio over hdmi.

I ordered this. Works great, just wish I could close my MBP lid while watching movies.

DVI is video only. doesn't matter if you convert it back to HDMI, if it passed through DVI first, you won't get sound.

If you have the gfxCardStatus program running, it won't show on the TV until you switch to discrete graphics.

me too!

i've got a 2011 15" mbp. when using the kanex miniDP to hdmi adapter (which i bought for my 2008 mbp... it has three inputs, miniDP, optical audio in, and usb for power, one output hdmi) it works perfectly. when using a single miniDP to hdmi adapter that i bought from macsales as well as another moshi brand i got yesterday, neither of them work. i need the limited usb ports...

since the older kanex works, i'm inclined to think apple has changed something. i have NOT tested either of the miniDP adapters on a 2010 mbp. i don't have access to one.

when i plug in the macsales adapter, the screen goes blue for a second on the mbp. then nothing. the moshi does even less... nothing.
