Not saying this is an elegant solution, I prefer to route all my hdmi through my AVR too. But in the interim you could do HDMI > TV | Audio out > Toslink | Toslink > splitter > TV + AVR

This way you have 1080p to the TV but multichannel audio to both sources, simultaneously, without having to switch back and forth in the sys prefs.
And I can't see where I can set the audio to come out of optical and HDMI at the same time...
If I can't do that then i'm stuck. I either get 1080p but audio to only one piece of equipment, or audio to both (by routing through my amp) but then limited to 720p..![]()
