Not the same size stick, probably not the same terminology. These are Low Power and Low Profile. Hmm.

I guess I'll have to wait. When I get it in my hands.

You may be right, based on a quick search on that term in newegg: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...=BESTMATCH&Description=lpddr3&N=-1&isNodeId=1

1.35V is DDR3L, used on SO-DIMMs.
LPDDR3 is 1.2V.

Unlikely. If you look at the CPU's Apple has chosen to offer in the new Mac Mini, you would see that one thing they all have in common is the type of package or socket they use (FCBGA1168). All the CPU's are Intel's "U" series (Ultra low power) and looking at the 4th Gen, i7 series, there is NOT a quad core i7 that uses the same package/socket. Hence, Apple would need to make a 2nd system board for a quad core, not to mention the higher power requirements and heat produced by 4 cores.

Their choice to go "U"-series seems to be the nail on the coffin for any chance of a higher performance quad chip. I think that's why we don't see one.

This Mac Mini has been made on the cheap. The $100 drop in price is made to look like Apple are doing their customers a favour, when in fact all they've done is pack a load of crap in a little aluminium box.

its really pathetic watching people on this forum blindly defend apple on this issue.

apple told us the soldered-in ram in the rMBP was for reducing the overall thickness of the device.

there is no excuse or justification WHATSOEVER to have soldered-in RAM on the latest mini.

and to top off the ridiculousness of the latest mini, they removed the quad core option.

then there's people on here talking like this is a good thing! "well if you dont like it just spend another $2000 to get what you want"

what the hell is wrong with you people?

steve jobs wanted to make things thin. tim cook wants to....make money. i'm done with apple now. i sold my rMBP and ipad air a month ago. replaced it with a surface pro 3.

i had to laugh at the latest ipad announcement.

this modern skeleton of apple cant even give us a touch screen on a laptop, and wont give us OSX on a hybrid tablet.

the innovation is not happening at apple anymore.

if you think a higher res screen is innovation, no wonder you are cheerleading for apple without thinking critically.

if you think soldered-in ram on a non-portable device is a good thing, just stop pretending to be a computer enthusiast for any meaning of the term.

Funny how you define innovation as putting touchscreen on a desktop or having a hybrid form factor. how simplistic.

and if Apple pisses you off that much AND you rid yourself of all Apple products, why are you here? Shouldn't you be on a microsoft's website and bash Apple like every other hater?

He's entitled to voice his displeasure! FFS!

On top of that, text rendering in Yosemite looks like **** when you bring your own low-DPI display, keyboard and mouse. Not only is the Mini more expensive, if you want to upgrade memory. Even if you do pay the Apple tax, you don't get the same Apple experience. OS X 10.10 is optimized for Retina displays, on a Mini it looks like Windows used to.

Should I, someone who doesn't own a Microsoft device, be on a Microsoft's fanboys' site and talk so eloquently about products that I don't have, I would unsurprisingly be called a troll. Being entitled to having an opinion doesn't mean it's ok to go on a website affiliated with products that you DON'T own, just to whine and complain and DISMISS people who own those products.

Mac Mini line-up is getting ditched for some kind of higher end version? Or low end Mac Pro like many mentioned here.

Or they just want Mini, iPod to die a quiet, respectable death.

Really? Because as it is stated, it was just a rumor. No clean facts, let alone picture of soldered RAM.

It's not a rumor. It's a fact. You just don't believe it.

MacWorld reported it. Think they made it up or guessed?

The service manual states it. Misprint??

18 pages of complaints about a product that's probably next in line to be cancelled lol. If you want a real thing to complain about how about complain about the quality control on the screen of the new iphone 6.

Ever since the iPhone showed up Apples focus has been on iOS devices. You all know this, I know this, everyone knows this.

So we shouldn't be surprised that the Mac Mini is no longer interesting to Apple. If you listen to them talk at conferences it is clear they only work on things that interest them.

If there is nothing unique they can bring to a product to get themselves excited then it will not get their focus. This Mac Mini update is the result of that lack of interest.

I would personally love them to make a Mac Mini that takes a Core i7 4790K and has a standard form factor graphics card that we can upgrade. But that isn't where Apple is headed. They want to make computers more like phones and tablets. Not upgradable. Just a consumable device you "upgrade" (by buying a new one) with high frequency.

It is this kind of approach to their desktop range which has made me build my own desktop and simply put OS X on it. I'm not advocating any of you do that as it has its drawbacks but the fact is the only way to get what you want is to build it yourself.

Please share with us your definition of innovation and how anything released lately by Apple ("Best product pipeline in 25 years"), fit's your definition.

The whole of the two announcements has been rather lame, with the exception of the iPhone 6, 6+ and iPad Air 2. The rest - yawn. Unbridled arrogance and hubris - standing ovation for the Apple Watch by a bunch of in the pocket sycophants passing as journalists and press people (Switzerland is in trouble - i.e. the Watch - WTF ?).

The faux update for the iPad Mini 3 (what upgrade was that ?), a Retina iMac (wow - oo-eee, golly Elmer!) with sub par graphics and only a piddly lithe performance update, - a revolution!! - whoa !!. Now this. I have a 2012 mini. I stay the course.

Apple sans Jobs - we're now witnessing the slide in living color. I was in the Apple store the other day. What was once a company that catered to a (self indulgent, smug ....ok) quasi elite is now just a Mecca for every Dick and Jane of the Lumpen Proletariate. Walmart on steroids. It's over folks and has been for quite some time now. Accept it for what it is.

I never said anything that Apple releases this year is innovative. Nor has anything that come out this year. But one thing is surely not innovative is putting a touchscreen on a laptop just to make up for the pathetic trackpad experience.

This year's line up is not innovative, but they're the strongest line up Apple's had for years. They cover all screen sizes, all hardware levels and manage to expand to a new product category.

Hate all you want but Apple is not going anywhere.

I think people are upset as they cannot make perfectly acceptable hardware upgrades after they have purchased the computer.

I understand and appreciate Apple's decision to solder RAM on MacBook's and iMac's, but there is simply not excuse at all to take this action on the Mini when it's been so user-upgradable friendly in the past.

I don't like this idea of 'disposable computers/devices'. Why shouldn't a user be able to upgrade and prolong the life of a machine? Apple bang on about how environmentally friendly their products are, but how many end up in landfills years before their time due to the fact that people cannot upgrade a simple thing like RAM?

Trust me, i truly want RAM to be user replaceable and it sucks if it really is soldered.
I just want to be sure. I am sure that my macbook air manual also states that SSD is not user replaceable....but it still is. It can be changed in like 5 minutes. You know what i mean?

But don't get me wrong, I just look for solid evidence, i am not calling anybody lier or calling them out.

No, far safer to complain about Microsoft devices from here instead, lol....

Someone dares to express an opinion, compare products that they see as being contenders for their needs... expresses dissatisfaction with the offerings available in the market they would like to buy in, and the defenders bash the competitors devices here instead of acknowledging that there are definite holes in Apple's product line that make it difficult for people to consider their products as viable.

People also forget that many of the people who express dissatisfaction are currently users of Apple products who have spent a lot of money with Apple over the years.

I have far more Apple products in my possession than any other brand. But, Apple's strategy is unfortunately forcing a change in my purchasing decisions to a direction I'd rather not go.

But, I'm not a blind fool anxious to dump more money than is necessary on hardware that is overpriced or beyond my needs simply because Apple doesn't offer anything that actually meets my needs without going 50 times beyond my needs.

I guess this is Apple's way on doubling down on upgradability. But in all seriousness I need a picture to see what it actually looks like under the cover. Maybe they stuck the PCIE riser where the ram would normally go? Or then it would be to easy to upgrade the PCIE ssd. I guess we just need to wait for the ifixit teardown. Who knows maybe they used pentalobe screws now to hold the bottom cover on.

Profit, phones, pads, pods, tunes, headphones, and watches. They no longer care much about Macs.

Well they have to pay Dre and that blubberysomething chick millions of dollars. You think that cash would come out of their pocket?

What will I ever do with just 16GB of RAM?

Damn, I have 8 GB and I am doing 3D on my iMac and doing full HD editing at my office with it. Stop being pretentious, you just are making a fool out of yourself. You can tell you are not doing anything professional, justa show off. I do not know how to be more blunt to you kid. Grow up.

People have popped the lid. It's soldered.
Where are the pictures?

Don't get me wrong, I think it's probably soldered, but these things should not be stated as fact unless someone tears it down and posts pics.

Also, you got used to soldered ram on the laptops, might as well get used to it on the mini. No quad core model is a much bigger sin.

Quick start bottom pic

The bottom of the 2014 mac mini no longer has the open close circles at the top or the 2 indents for your fingers on the bottom. So it looks like they don't want you inside.
