To each his own. I can see how this can be appealing to someone, but really - not my cup of mustard.

I could see it when I get too old to fold myself up onto my K1300S.

I wouldn't call it an "amenity".

I've been mounting my smartphone on the handlebars for years – mostly for navigation. But you have to remove your gloves any time you need to interact (eg if it offers to re-navigate around some traffic).

The voice/hardware control features of CarPlay would be a huge improvement.

Voice control is definitely the way to go. In the meantime, there are touchscreen-compatible motorcycle gloves now. I have an armored, vented pair from RevIt.

I have to admit I never thought about motorcycles when speaking about Car Play. But of course it makes total sense, especially for the cruiser ones.

Also offers air conditioning and keyless entry. No, really.

I know it sounds weird right? I mean it’s a bike, you are literally outside!
But the aerodynamics and weather protection are so good that if it rains while having speed you will even remain dry. So being able to turn the heat up in temps hitting 0C is actually something winter riders will appreciate. Considering the Goldwing is a comfort machine.
Fun fact. Gilera had air ducts directing heat to the legs from the radiator in their small scooters since ‘97, if not earlier.

Keyless starts becoming common ground for bikes costing half as much. Starting the bike with the remote while you walk towards it is fun according to the owners.

Over 45yrs riding and I have never needed nor wanted radios, cruse control or anything on my bikes but me and a motor....

Wow, people take this quote very seriously. I take it as a joke. "Air conditioning" Get it? Out in the air riding. Although there are AM a/c units, Honda hasn't put them on as factory equipment AFAIK. And "keyless entry". Again, get it? Hop on the bike, no doors to open hence no keys? He did not say "keyless ignition".

I hope Harley follows suit. Harman Kardon isn't cutting it in the innovation department for Harley's instrument cluster.
I dunno, I think the HK system works just fine on my RGS. Aside from having to add an aftermarket amp and speakers to make it easily listenable at road speeds, its biggest problem is sun glare in morning and evening, but that is not HKs fault. This biggest problem with CarPlay on a ->touring<- bike is that, one way or the other, you are beholden to a cell connection to make it work. Whether it is updating maps while riding or trying to download maps at the campsite with spotty cell reception they are basically internet appliances. The built in HK system will update maps whether in town, in the sticks, in the canyons, or under tree cover. Cell phones are nice, but I would not call them the worlds best for touring. A sat phone, perhaps, but not a cell phone. And let's not even get into Waze and other apps mailing home your get away locations to the data miners of the world. I don't care, but more libertarian minded folks might.
Distraction issues aside (really, we WANT riders to look at their dash more?) it seems CarPlay is really more for round town riders and commuters more than touring folks. Which makes it somewhat odd on a GW, IMHO.

Beware, road accidents up for an increase..

With the passage of the law allowing motorcyclists to legally "lane-split" (travel through traffic passing cars in the #1 (fast) and #2 lane) it doesn't seem safety rates very high to them. Lane-splitting while futzing with their new CarPlay display, and yes...accidents on the rise even more.

This would have been a good chance to implement wireless CarPlay.

Can someone actually show me where wireless CarPlay has ever been implemented?

Oh, great. Now I have to provide tech support for grandpa’s bike, too?

I know it's a joke but this is far easier for people to understand than what typically comes with a car.

Hope this makes it way into the new 2018 Ducati Multistrada. There have been rumors its big display is finally going to to used for more then just your speed.

For those who ask why? Having parts of this on a bike makes a big difference. On my current bike I get Call, text and navigation notifications on my speedo with the option of answering a call or music control if I wanted and it makes a big difference on a long ride.

Awesome bike, and unsurprising. Honda has always done a great job with keeping the Gold Wing a well-appointed machine. Always leading edge in electronics, comfort and safety.

I'll stick to my Triumphs and BMWs, though. :p
Well there are riders whom like to ride without endless maintenance and breakdowns. They stick with the GW ;)

This is ridiculous. Without wireless CarPlay this is a nonstarter. And REQUIRES a bluetooth headset?
Who wants to plug in their phone every time they putter around town? The extra step is a barrier. The manufacturer should be reducing barriers.
Because it charges also Maybe?

The Goldwing does have heat, heated seat, grips and floorboards, and AC. not 'real' AC. And has for many years. It also has had a stereo for many years. It also has a reverse gear, cruise control, and was the first motorcycle to offer an airbag. BTW antilock brakes are an option on many motorcycles these days. And weighs in at over 900 lbs. And why it has a reverse gear.

And I think it's offered with the same size motor as the Accord. ;)
a 1832cc Liquid-Cooled horizontally opposed six-cylinder.

For anyone interested: http://powersports.honda.com/2017/gold-wing/specifications.aspx

Edited: The Goldwing does NOT have an AC compressor. Just vents.

A motorcycle with a "reverse gear" just ain't right!

Oh, and I do ride a Honda VFR800.
No heated anything, except my right leg from poor airflow.
Long live the "Right Leg Roaster". Those who ride know what I'm talking about.

You may want to move into the 21st Century and expand your horizons a bit.

Unfortunately, having to add anything aftermarket to a bike to make it "decent" is pretty terrible IMO. Any "appliance" not connected to the internet is nothing more than a relic because its obviously a huge disadvantage. Updates through the internet on any LTE based phone, which is most of them now, is EXTREMELY fast. Waze will update real time road conditions, accidents, etc and route accordingly.

What they did to the new Goldwing looks incredible and will surpass, in many ways, all other touring bikes on the road.
