Hey all,

I just registered as a developer and I was wondering once I add people's iPhone's to the registered users how do they get the beta version? Do they also legally have to have an ADC membership for it to be legal and not violate the NDA?

I know for me I can just log in get the file and update if I want too but I'm just curious how that works for other devices on your account and couldn't find anything on the site about it.

I'm a registered ADC developer and I find your question a bit perplexing as Apple has a ton of information on the ADC site concerning provisioning for the iPhone.

On top of that there are Developer forums for where your question is asked and answered fully within the NDA you signed.

So, why do you ask this question here?

For the 2.0 beta builds Apple put expiration dates on them. When the OS expired the phone was unusable until you installed the newest beta. At one point the beta builds did not overlap and the devs had unusable phones for a day or 2.

So yes, it's entirely possible you'd get a non-working phone running beta software if it expires.

Damn this is really crap, I was under the impression that a registered device would not go through a period where it's left hanging in the air.

The biggest thing from the first beta was the maps app, it was horrible. How does it work on the new beta? functional at least, does it keep good current location?

Thanks for the quick response...

Maps is back working fine, I installed the new version yesterday and it's not crashing anymore. In general the lag I experienced on all of the other applications has gone and it is quite useable.

Hey all,

I have legitimate access to the iPhone OS 3.0 Beta2 through the Apple Dev Programme.

It mentions that upon installing the iPhone OS 3.0, the phone cannot be downgraded anymore, previously I was informed by some users that one could in fact downgrade.

So what's the deal here?

It's actually quite easy, despite what some say. You just shift click restore and select the 2.2.1, it will give you a error on itunes, but it worked anyways. From there, you just jailbreak your phone without adding cydia or installer or anything. After that, it's back on 2.2.1 but still the 3.0 baseband. The baseband can't be downgraded.

so quick question on the 3.0 beta2. I have one of my buddies on my dev testing for my apps and after putting the new beta on his phone, when we went home to sync with his iTunes, his itunes won't recognize it, yet my brother in law who is also testing for me, had no issues. You can't even select restore on his mac, any ideas?

xcode question

after i connect my phone to xcode and open Organizer works good for a while, but if i unplug the phone and reconnect it it will not refresh the console logs.
I have to turn off xcode and restart it.

is it just me?

Is anyone else noticing that battery life seems to be REALLY good in beta 2?

I thin you are right, I charged it last night before going to bed, now it's nearly 6pm and the battery bar is halfway, I think with the 2.2.1 firmware it would be around 30% charged right now.

Totally... I'm digging the battery life in beta 2 as well.

I have noticed that the pictures seem extra sharp/crisp.

Also while MMS seems stable: mine works if I try to send an EXISTING photo, NOT one that I take while in text mode. Hmmmm.

Also the VOICE recording by text is great. I just sent a friend a list of things that would have taken me forever to text. Very useful.

I was concerned about loading this onto my only iPhone, as there is no going back, but it feels like a very stable platform.

One thing I was just thinking of was search in the Messages app. Seems like a place it should also be added.

I don't suppose anybody would be willing to add my UDID to their ADC account? I'm not exactly in the position to shell out $100 right now.

I'm tired of people asking for this. You're not going to be happy with private beta software. There is a huge difference between private beta stability and public beta stability. There's a reason why Apple doesn't want anyone to have it unless it's really necessary for application development.

Also, I think it's against forum rules to request such a thing.

Could someone please test iPhone OS 3.0 with the Apple In-Ear Headphones with Remote & Mic, the Apple Earphones with Remote & Mic and/or the new shuffle earphones?

I'd like to know if the volume controls now work on the iPhone :)

Has anyone tried this yet with Beta 2?

Anyone else with the following bugs?

Bug #1
-Phone is in locked mode
-Call is received, answered and ended
-Screen stays within phone.app but still with a locked icon in the status bar
-You can tap around in phone.app, but pressing home button and sleep/wake does nothing.

Bug #2
-Phone connection seems to randomly disconnect.
-message.app and phone.app dont send anything

my fix for both? rebooting...

So far, it's those 2 bugs and the first one I found where ipod.app doesnt play music in the background after a movie has been played...

t'was fun, 3.0... but i must wake up and realize a beta is a beta. back to the days of 2.2.1 for me :)

I have had Bug #1 happen to me a few times in 3.0 Beta 2. It completly disables the phone and I need to hold down the lock and home key together to reboot the phone. Bug 2 hasnt happened to be yet.

I tried to install the 3.0 b2 (from 2.2.1) and I got an error 1611. This forced me to restore and it did not install the beta.

By the way, I AM a registered developer and I DO develop (before someone jumps in telling me that I should not install in the first place).

I used the search and found a couple of posts within this same thread from people who encountered the same error, but it isn't clear to me if they managed to finally install the beta.

Any comments? Did it happen to someone else? Did you finally install the beta?

Thanks

Edit: Never mind, I got it installed. I hope I won't regret it now...

i tried to outsmart it by going to a contact and tapping "send text message" so it opens up messenger.app, but it ended up just flashing back to the phone app

Uh oh...

Is anyone else running into the old "takes the iPhone FOOOOOREVER to backup" bug? Its been backing up for 10 mins now. Ughhhhhh...
