Pretty sweet looking screen. And now that the 30" is definitely being discontinued, according to MR front page, this could be a viable option.

Just wanted to add that HP has excellent customer service.

I bought a HP LP2475w (a 24" IPS monitor that I got for around $430, lovin' it :)) but after a couple months my unit wouldn't turn on and emitted a high pitch screeching noise. I gave them a call, and the customer service rep redirected me to their business customer division (apparently the monitor is only serviced by their business division), and then arranged for a replacement. Two days later, a deliveryman takes my old broken unit for a brand new one. I was very happy :).

Unless you didn't have minidisplay port on your Mac, the new 27 inch Cinema Display is better choice, cheaper too ($999).

Looks very interesting; I prefer it to the Dells that I've looked at. I'll be ordering my Mac Pro as soon as they're available, and stick with my 30" ACD until it dies (it's over 5 years old).

Why would you say that? it's less resolution, smaller screen, glossy (ugh!) and unknown color accuracy (is it even wide gamut?).

Yes it's LED and so power use will be lower, and that I really like, but I having been waiting -4- years for a new 30" ACD this this announcement yesterday of the 27" LED display and discontinuing the 30" has finally pushed me to give up on apple displays.

95% sure I'll be buying one of these zr30w displays at this point. I wish I could have a 30" LED wide gamut display, but at this point it looks like that will still be a year or two away.

So who actually has one of these on a mac now?

I have to replace my 24" and I am still really missing my old dell 3007.

I was looking at the 3008 but then this came along. I waited to see what Apple would come up with and while the 27" would make a superb screen; I don't want the isight, charger etc or to buy an extender cable.

So I think the HP ZR30W is for me, but I would like a little feedback from actual users if anyone has it yet?

For my day to day use its currently split between bootcamp (corel draw as the mac 11 ver is a bit poo) and photoshop/office etc. I also usually have a movie open while I am working (but may get a little 20" as a second screen for that sort of stuff -see how I get on with the iPad first).

now the big question - I do play games now and again (not very often nowadays) so I'd love to know how it handles fps type (I am not a picky gamer who has to have 1million fps and -1ms response). is it good enough say for shooting type games occasionally or should I think about that 20" for that?

Sorry for the long post and am trying not to thread-jack but I didn't want to make a new post about the same monitor....

I ordered one today, along with a Spyder 3 Studio SR for calibration (upgrading from the huey pro I have now), I'll post some details when it arrives.

As for the gaming, it will be fine. I've done hardcore gaming on 5 year old LCD monitors with 15+ms latency and they were just fine. Anand reviewed that as well: here

Received this monitor, unfortunately mine has an annoying hum at anything other than full brightness (which is WAY too bright). i'm having to RMA it back to macmall which they gave me no hassle over, but it's still a PITA.

I read another report on the web about this zr30w and humming noise, so I'm a bit concerned it may be a A01 release design issue.

I'm back to reconsidering my options therefore. Grrrrr..

I have my HP ZR30w hooked up to my new 17" MacBook Pro i7. I use my MBP as my sidekick monitor when I'm working in Lightroom or Photoshop. Works great... Lovin' it...No humming noise either...

Do you have your brightness turned all the way up or is it turned down / calibrated?

I got spooked - it's just too much hassle to deal with things that don't work. I ordered an NEC PA271W-BK-SV spectraview monitor (27") and a PA241W-BK 24" to go next to it in portrait mode. It's (quite a bit) more money, but hopefully better quality as well. Pretty good deal at B&H, and should be here Monday.

I would like to know more about this display. Are there many people who have this display and are using it with Mac?

Does it work OK? Is it easy to calibrate with OS X? Colors are not over saturated? Does all units hum? Does it wake from sleep?

I bought mine in June and it has worked flawlessly for me with my Mini. Love the matte screen. What I did not realize when I bought it that the dual-link DVI cable is included and so is a USB cable since it can function as a USB hub. Also included was a DP cable.

I decided to buy a 6 foot MDP>DP cable from Kanex. Works great for $15. I did not use the CD that came with it. My Mini recognized it as a 2560x1600 immediately.

Yes, wakes up from a sleep, but even before this monitor, my mini took a little coaxing to wake up. Now I hit the space bar a couple of times and it wakes up. If not, just power it off and then back on.

If you are in an acoustic chamber, you might hear the monitor.

Did not have to calibrate it, for my uses. Colors are perfect for me and I keep brightness down.

Remember, it comes with a 3 year warranty included and that's extendable to 5 years.

So in summary-no charge for a dual-link cable (saving $100) and no need to buy a 3 year warranty (saving $100-I guess-did not see that price for the new 27") and the screen is matte.:D

Frankly, I love using it with inverted colors for internet browsing or whenever web pages are all white-you know hold down Control+Option+Cmd and hit 8 key.

Even though the new ACD's look nice, I will most likely go with Eizo or NEC, leaning toward NEC though.
