Kuo has been pretty accurate so looks like it's gonna happen. I just don't understand why. This just complicates stuff. Apple is forgetting what made them great, simplicity.

Great news for those that want it with current specs - for one thing - I was sure they will not have the 6 and 6s as the free phones next year so this fits Apple MO with their margins.
I agree, but let's hope this rumour turns out to be true or else the chances of it being A8 are just as high unfortunately! Same specs, different sizes is the way to go.

How can there be a demand for a phone with a .7 inch smaller screen? Doesnt seem worth it , why not just reduce the bezel on the next iphone
There are a lot of people (including me) who find the 6 to be way too big- I've been holding out for an updated 5S and will likely buy this the day it's available (barring it only coming in neon colors).

I am one of the people who wants to see a new 4" iPhone. But not getting this phone won't mean in not putting my money where my mouth is. I want the newest iPhone in 4", not some repackaged iPhone from 2 years ago.
Its not repackaged if he has the A9 - A9 is the current shipping model
3D touch is hardly a necessity - but I wouldn't get it, especially with the installment plans we currently have in the US (Next, Jump, etc)
I am getting a new phone every year by handing in the old one.

It may very well be that Apple plans to split a bit the lineup of iPhones. 3 sizes, 4, 4.7, 5.5. It would make sense to leave for now the iPhone 5S updated, and with higher price tag than currently, and for iPhone 7 bring 3 new formats.

Then they would have 3 sizes with 3 price points and performance.

4 inch:
5S - A7
6C - A9
7C - A10
4.7 inch:
6 - A8
6S - A9
7 - A10
5.5 Inch:
6+ - A8
6S+ - A9
7+ - A10

And the end result is: more money for Apple.

Oh my. No please. Three screen sizes, sure, but please keep the performance the same. Just because I want a 4" phone, doesn't mean I don't want top shelf components.

Sure, make the argument that the extra space in the + model allows for more power. I am saying l, hoping, Apple leaves it out. Make the decision easy by limiting the difference to one core feature: display size.

I've already spotted this one in the wild here in Barcelona. Maybe Apple is giving hints? Or some designer did some errors when scaling.

I just don't buy this decreased 6s order rumor that's floating around...
Somebody looking to depress the stock price. Still blows my mind that Apple's PE is 9 while Microsoft's is 37 and Google's is 24. For whatever reason W$ thinks Apple is in perpetual doom. No matter what they report someone's always predicting the next quarter is going to be bad.

The repackaged iPhone from 2 years ago would be the A7-containing iPhone 5s? Which they still currently sell for $450. I don't see the point in re-releasing it in the same metal case but with different colours. If that were the case, wouldn't the rumours say that Apple is making the 5s available in additional colours?

From which one would conclude that this new 4-inch iPhone would have likely have an A8 processor.

if this happens, I would like to know how the specs for this phone compare with the new iPhone 7.

Kuo added the iPhone 7 will enter mass production in the second quarter of fiscal 2016.

Not sure about the 4-inch-phone (although I'd love to see one), but that prediction doesn't exactly require any expertise...

Fair enough everyone has different needs, but i consume alot of media on my phone , so 4 inch is a no go

Yes. That's all this rumor suggests they are doing (if you don't count all the other things: Apple Pay, A9 processor instead of A6, 2.5D glass, etc.).
I said updating...which would include internals.

Yeah, it would certainly be right up Cooks alley for sure.

But an A9, Touch ID, NFC and a metal casing, and I will seriously consider one instead of a 6S.
Let's hope for the best. 'Cause didn't the other more sketchy rumours point out towards A8 instead?

Same specs, different sized devices would be best for everyone imo.

I have small hands and seriously i use a 6s plus with no problems at all

Me too. Tiny hands, and love my 6s plus.

But partially that's because the 6s plus is SO big that I never even consider using it one-handed. It's a very small ultra-portable iPad Mini, that's also a phone and has amazing specs. Small hands never prevented me from using various iPads, and they don't pose a problem for the 6s plus.

But the 6 was a different story. I *wanted* to use it one-handed, but it was both too big AND too slippery. I switched to an android phone after just two months of being afraid I would drop it (I'm not a case person).

A new 6c (or whatever they call it) would let me use a phone again with one hand, so even though I'm a happy 6s plus user, I would also consider switching to a 4" phone.

The timing of releasing a C iPhone early in the following year makes sense. Let the fall launch be all about the latest and greatest, keep the conversation focused on the hero product, pull in as many people who were on the fence as possible.

Anyone who held out because they really wanted that smaller form factor can then get the C when it is released six months later. It's a frankenphone of already existing components so probably not as major an undertaking as designing and manufacturing an entirely new device, so they can do less than 10% of the year's iPhone shipments and still make it worth their while.

Smart.
