What’s the benefit of AirPods Max over Sony or Sennheiser or Bose wireless cans?
The privilege of paying more? 🤷‍♂️

RTNGS has a nice breakdown of sound profiles for all these brands and it was definitely a factor in my picking of the over-the-ears I ended up with.
With regards to sound quality, probably very little. At least not enough to justify the cost difference. However the APM2 will have the U2 chip for easier connectivity. There will be Siri integration (if you use Siri, I don't). And if you wear them in public, you get to let everyone know you can afford Apple. :p

I was scratching my head why they didn't make the original AirPods Max USB-C.
Made no sense to me at the time.
Now they are calling that a feature???

As distasteful as it seems it’s pretty clear that if it wasn’t planned from the start, they certainly take advantage of dripping out little things like USB and calling it new. They definitely withhold things to make later products look better. I didn’t want to think they do that. But they’ve done it a few times now and it’s becoming more common.

Why such a long wait for the Max? Mine just started having issues charging and it’s out of warranty. I might need to get a new one before they release a V2 then.

Thats unfortunate. Mine have been great, and have used them for hours, every day. The carry case has never been used though ;)

When we were all using Lightning cables to charge our phones, it absolutely made sense for AirPods to charge with same cable that was included with the phone. Now Apple is transitioning all accessories to charge via USB-C, alongside the iPhone 15. So, obviously any updated AirPods that come out from here forward will have USB-C. Not a huge deal, just normal part of the transition. Not sure why that's hard to understand.

I have been biding my time for AirPods Max 2. Really hoping Gurman is right about 2024—and hoping Apple doesn't disappoint!
Don’t know how long you’ve been waiting for but it sounds like a great way to be disappointed.

I bought mine in June, rumors of a new version were already there. Very glad I didn’t wait, these gen 1s are already really great.

Amen to that. I got mine immediately on launch and have used them probably 20+ hours a week since then. They've protected me from baby noise, traffic noise and everything else, and been an excellent pandemic and post-pandemic companion for everything from TV watching to music to work video calls.

The only thing I'm missing is the new Adaptive mode that AirPods Pro have, and I fully expect that to be built into the next version, which I'll pounce on. I've more than gotten my money's worth out of the pair I have.

Not for nothing, but here in NYC, AirPods Max are *everywhere* on the street. Like, walking around in Manhattan on a busy day I probably see a pair being worn on every block or two, especially now that cooler weather is upon us. I'm also spotting fakes for sale, which is a clear sign of something being popular :)

Am I understanding this correctly? In 2024, there will be new AirPods in two versions, with and without ANC. Then in 2025 there will be another release of AirPods Pro with ANC. What will likely be the big difference between them and the 2024 version with ANC? It sounds like a confused mess already.

Maybe a redesign with the 3rd generation AirPods Pro, black version, H3 chip?

I think Apple will redesign the AirPods Max in addition to giving it the H2 or H3 chip and USB-C. Hopefully a real case this time.

None of this is definite. As much as people love to try to lay out some roadmap, this is all just speculation.

Was about to upgrade my Pros to Pro 2 for the better noice cancellation/battery life. I guess it would be wiser to stretch them another year and half.

100% agree. I know many, myself included, are allergic to the rubber Apple uses for its Pro models. Plus the one without rubber tip is much easier to clean.
You probably already know this, but there are lots of aftermarket tips you can buy for AirPods Pro. Maybe some of them are made from something less irritating to your allergy.

It strange though, isn't it? I mean, if the Pro ends up being a version that is basically just one year newer and slightly better than the non-pro version, then it is always being chased by the following release of the non-Pro ANC version every release. It is already a bit odd the way that according to many, the AP3 were better than the APP1 except for the fact they did not have ANC. It just gives me headache even thinking about it. I think they should simply release a non ANC and an ANC version together each year, and they are simply the current generation of the AirPods in two versions. Maybe they will? I guess we'll have to wait and see.

At the end of the day, AirPods are an iPhone accessory. Sure, they work with everything in the ecosystem... but they're an iPhone accessory. iPhones sell the most out of their products. They wouldn't ship it with a different port than the iPhone.
