Personally, I love it. There's nothing worse than accidentally flicking the caps lock button and then having to retype everything. I can't imagine why this is such a big issue with so many people, maybe because I can't imagine why anyone would use caps lock extensively.

Overall, I think this feature fits in well with the new keyboard design. It's fast, it's responsive, no clickiness that so many keyboards seem to have and in general, very well suited to the majority of users.

I'm glad they added this feature and I'm sure it will be very useful for the majority of Apple keyboard users. It really annoys me when I have to re-type a whole sentence, just because I didn't notice that I accidentally turned caps lock on. I look forward to seeing this feature added to all of the MacBooks too.
But I won't be totally happy until they completely abolish the caps lock forever.

I DON'T USE CAPS LOCK THAT OFTEN TO NOTICE IT.

But it is indeed less responsive then the other keys, oh well, love this keyboard.

I found this really annoying at first since I'm used to just tapping caps lock to capitalize things. I'm getting more used to using the shift key now, though at first my pinky was really getting sore from having to arch up and move down instead of just sliding to the left to activate it. I've noticed this same thing in Linux and always thought it was an error, never knew so many people were accidentally hitting the caps key since I've always used it intentionally. I do wish there was a way to turn this off though since in Capitalizing Multiple Things In A Row gets really tiring with the shift key.

I don't like this feature, because I need to use input methods to enter texts in languages other than english, caps lock key is used very frequently. And this feature just *help* me make mistakes from time to time.

What's with everyone accidently hitting the caps lock key anyway?

Are you that bad a typing that you're CONSTANTLY HITTING THE CAPS LOCK KEY BY MISTAKE?

I'm a new owner of both an iMac and a MacBook, and am very very happy with both machines, so far!
The aluminium keyboard is really quite beautiful, and I'm even getting used to it, even though it is so different from a regular keyboard!
I was moaning and groaning over the weekend about how annoying the caps lock 'feature' is to me. I type a lot, and use the caps lock key hundreds of times a day, for headings, abbreviated qualifications after a person's name, etc.
Sometimes I have to tap the caps lock key up to 10 times before the light will stay on. I've tried tapping it gently, medium tap and heavy tap; tapping on one side, tapping in the middle and tapping on the right side of the key. It doesn't take any notice of me, and works when it wants to!
Yes, I agree with others that it is something I will get used to, but really I would so much prefer that this key is exactly the same as other keys. For those of us involved in real typing of letters and reports, where the quality of typing is extremely important, it would be nice to not have to think twice when needing to set the caps lock!
My approximate typing speed is 120+ words per minute, but I am slowed down considerably as I constantly have to re-do all those words which should be in capitals.

Returning my keyboard

I am going to my local Apple store tomorrow and I will try to get my keyboard replaced with one that has not been updgraded yet.

I don't understand why Apple chose to implement this feature in the hardware as opposed to the OS. I just wrote an email to Apple saying that they should give users an option to enable or disable the CapsLock delay as there are mixed feelings among users about this feature.

As far as I am concerned, the new CapsLock behaviour makes my keyboard utterly useless becuase I have the CapsLock key remapped to act as Backspace. I hit Backspace a lot, everyone does, and so this messes up my workflow massively.

Suffice it to say that I am still using (reluctantly) my old 'n' battered keyboard.

I've had the same issue with my wireless keyboard. Sometimes the caps lock light doesn't come on. My fix is to open the battery compartment, then close it again. Works every time, but it's still a pain to have to do that once every day or two.

caps lock erratic response

Just bought this keybaord [Nov 2011] and the caps lock still doesn't respond quickly enough, you have to hold it down quite a while to get it to turn on, if you just tap it it doesn't respond which I find really inconvenient. It's the slowest response I've ever experienced on any keyboard in 25 years. Not very helpful. At least the caps lock key has a warning light on it unlike most keyboards, so you're less likely to type for ages with it accidentally on without noticing.

Long time since I gave up on Apple products. I agree that some users with very poor typing skills will find this feature appealing. But when I had this keyboard I wanted to use it with a PC. Now, on a PC we have a fantastic scripting tool called AutoHotkey that allows you to remap any key to do pretty much anything, and quite frankly the location of the CapsLock key is better suited to other tasks, e.g. Backspace or Delete. Incidentally, Apple decided to not include a delete key on their keyboards, I am sure Apple fanboys and girls will be delighted by this omission. Maybe they should release keyboard called the iMorse, with only just one key, allowing users to type in Morse code.

Apple has a special ability to make quality products and turn them into **** by omitting some obvious basic functionality in order to oversimplifying and then trying to tell us that this "simpler" products achieve the same functionality as other competing products.

Got the new keyboard. :D It rocks, except for one thing: the caps lock isn't as sensitive as the other keys. Turning off caps is fine, but turning it on, I have to press the key a little harder than the others for it to activate.

Is anyone else experiencing this? I'm wondering if for some reason it's supposed to be like that?

If Apple seriously think this delay on the Caps Lock key is helpful, supposedly to prevent it 'accidentally' being pressed, I would like them to know how much time I have wasted after I have pressed it expecting it to be either on or off, only to discover that it hadn't responded. Don't 'fix' things that don't need fixing, Apple' you're just being infuriating.

Yup. And here is my message to those users who regard this as a grand design feature and who keep hitting the Caps Lock key accidentally: Learn to flippin' touch-type!!

Hi all

As a new Mac user I was astonished and gobsmacked to find out what this delay was. I took me a while to find out !! I thought it was an issue with the keyboard or My Typing. A useless addition esp with no option to change it, or so I thought ........

Anyhow, if you want to get rid of it do this, but note, when you shut down or restart you will need to do it again.

system preferences - keyboard - modifier keys - change caps lock key to NO ACTION - click OK, then go into caps lock key again and change to caps lock - click ok.

The delay has gone. :)
