How much easier can it be then pressing on the App store icon on the iPhone. I think this is a silly arrangement that really scratches my head. I'm sure Pinterest threw Apple a boat load of money to do this, but I do question why apple would agree.
There is already a new App Store popup sheet introduced since iOS 8. But I'm not quite sure if the Install button is calling this popup sheet, or does it really trigger the download and installation process without getting into the App Store.

Anyway, this is about social marketing via integration into social networking platform, where App Store itself is more of a marketplace than having any real effect on the social side. "Oh Mary installed X, let me try it too", this kind of scenario... ugh.

This is nice.

not sure what other people are experiencing here but Pinterest on Mac Safari directs the click to iTunes.com > then to iTunes store opening to the App page.

on my iPhone it takes me right to the App Store App page. It doesn't take me to the app within Pinterest but it heads outside the app.

Now, I wish there was a better way to Pin other apps than just those on pinterest.com/appstore

I tried via the iTunes.com app page but that says no images. I don't feel like trying too hard to pin then get images for it.

I use Pinterest as a way to remember certain recipes, or when we are planning a vacation we use group pins so we can each look at ides in the area/tips/etc. I will pin neat design ideas or Typography shots. It is nice when my wife says, I pinned a recipe, can you make that for dinner. or I like certain organizational tips and want to remember them for later.

PS...I am a male pinterest user

This is awesome. I don't have a single iOS device... but Apple slowly opening things up will win me back around. Now all I need is being able to share to any app directly from my photo album, and being able to select default apps, i.e. Chrome vs Safari.
