What are people's thoughts about the Apple displays? In the Buyer's Guide it says the average is 230 days and its been 947 days since the last update!

So what do you guys think about if/when Apple will release updates to their displays?

Chances of seeing some before Christmas is very minimal, you may see some early 2010, but maybe not.

Truth is no one really knows.

I doubt it. The cost of resources to redesign and retool a new design is very high. The LED display has only been out for a bit over a year. When the cost of 30-inch LED panels drop to a reasonable price we should see the introduction of the bigger model in the new design motif.

Bummer

Yeah, that's what I figured. That's a shame. Maybe they're waiting to unleash some sort of touch sensitive display, or something that goes along with their upcoming tablet?

Thoughts?

In my opinion, not for a while. Currently, it doesn't make much sense for a product that sits on a desktop to have a touch screen display. The keyboard and mouse is the dominant input paradigm and it will take some time for that to shift to touchscreen based input.

New displays would likely not be announced any sooner than with an update to the Mac Pro (sometime in late Q1 or early Q2 2010).

A 27" display using the same panel as the new iMac or in a 16:10 ratio would be an obvious one to expect.

At first I was holding off, but then I just gave in and bought the 24 on Tuesday. Its beautiful, and it also occurred to me that I'd rather have 16:10 than 16:9. I use my computer for working, not for watching movies.

OC Baby!
Logical additions would be a 21.5 and a 27 - however I believe we were told there wouldn't be any more updates until after Christmas.

why? i think 24" is just perfect, thou

Because there are some people who do not want to spend $900 on a display, or who may not want something that big.

Apple has made a great thing by making the new iMac 21.5" display support 1920x1200, so you get the same resolution, HD ready benefit as the 24" display, but in a cheaper, smaller, and lighter package, which also some people may appreciate....such as a person like me :D

Umm the 21.5" LED wouldn't be that much cheaper. It would most likely be between $600 and $700. I mean it is only 2.5" smaller.

A 27.5 iMac is currently $100 cheaper than a 30" Cinema Display.

Are Apple's displays really that good?

It's too close in size to the 24". And it wouldn't be very profitable most likely.

My guess is they will ditch the 24" and introduce a 21.5", 27" and maybe 30"-32" inch display at once. All 16:9. I see this happening Q1 or Q2 2010. It doesn't make sense to keep the 24" now that it isn't used in a iMac anymore. But a 27" ACD would have to fairly cheap in order to compete with the iMac. Something I would love to see :D

This is what I think / would like to happen. Besides, the iMac features this metal borderless screen that makes the screen itself more present. It is possible that the ACDs adopt this feature.
