your half right normaly yes, a phone you get from verizon will only work for verizon, however if you unlock a phone it willwork on any network with compatible technology, this is the reason that the RAZR doesnt work on verizon networks. because cingular is GSM and verizon/nextel are CDMA. the reason sprint is so limited is because they are the only provider that uses the PCS aproach in the US, and hence there are few phones which support this

Exactly. I had cingular (AT&T) for years and it was fine until they went GSM then it all went to hell. Service is the worst, can't hardly hear anything. Also GSM does a hard handshake to the next tower where as CDMA (SPRINT) does a soft handshake. That is why GSM networks service drops off when moving between towers. The only good thing about GSM is that they use those little cards for your information and can be taken out and put in another phone and it works. Plus web access is way faster on CDMA.

I think it has to do with where your getting your service at. I'm in downtown cincinnati and my entire family has had cingular for years, even before they merged with AT&T's service. None of them, including myself have had any problems whatsoever with cingular. Actually their service coverage is absolutely amazing. They're not kidding when they say they have more bars. :p

But it could be different in another area. This is just my experience.

Have you tried a Sprint or Verizon phone? Does your cingular phone sound like you are talking on a land line phone? Thats the difference. I had mine in Orlando Florida so service should have been good but you may be right. Could be very clear in the city.

I used to have a sprint phone at my old job, and when i happen to be standing next to a cell tower and i could recieve or make a call it sounded pretty good. Its just the reception was terrible. At times my cingular call quality sounds kinda crappy, yes, but overall i'm very pleased with it. I just think it has to do with the current market area your in. I do keep hearing verizon call quality is great though but i've never talked on one of their phones.

Nope. Doesn't work that way. Moto Razr is the nicest phone out there but its only for cingular and they SUCK. Sprint and verizon have way better technology and service.

Ah, OK, see here, I can go down to the store and either get a RAZR on a certain plan from a number of providers and pay a certain amount per month in call costs etc. Or, I can buy the phone outright and choose whoever I want to be my carrier.

We have GSM and CDMA here too but unless you're working out in the scrub everybody is on GSM so all you need to connect is a SIM card from your chosen carrier.

Oh, and if any company here even though of making customers pay to RECIEVE calls on the mobile phone they would be run out of town by an angry mob.

Don't get me started on the Canadian cellphone system. We may be a bit behind on technology down here but we've got the mobile phone system sorted.

Its 9am EDT...we are 3 hours away from 9am PST (or 12am EDT :p ).

We'll almost surely see the iTunes phone. Could we also see 10.4.2 finally released today? If there are any hardware updates, it will probably be the Mac mini. As for a bet for the super unexpected "one more thing" surprise? A TiVo TV box, to go along with that remote control patent :p or or something totally new...
You mean 12pm EDT
...and 9 AM PDT. :)

So, what was the announcement?
