still hoping for a slim/12" something!! anyone out there know how much the 12" PB cost back in the day? i'm in desperate need of a 12" for my traveling job and part time school and would like to have an idea of the $$ when/if something like this comes out . . . maybe tomorrow!?!?!?! :apple::D:apple:

When I got mine in early 2005 it was $1,699 USD for 512MB RAM and the SuperDrive. I believe it was $1,499 with the ComboDrive.

I'm interested to see how Apple prices the new MacBook in Canada.

Same here... the price should be at least on par with the US store and really it should be below the cost. I am going to be talking to the apple store here in Canada. I want to buy a mac pro and the build I want is about $600 more than it would be in the states and that is unacceptable

You won't see actual numbers below US prices until we reach US$1.08 to US$1.10. I would expect parity for the MacBook (in numbers if not in currency).

Intel's GMA line sucks - get some dedicated in there :p

It will be the X3100 and nothing more. "suckage" is relative.

So the news about the GMA X3100 kext has finally made it to the front page! :)
This is the news that I've been waiting weeks for. I'm not too bothered about the Alu design, but SR and GMA X3100 should be enough to convince me that it will be worth the wait.
Now, just the Mac Pro update left to wait for!

I'm hoping ( though, not optimistic ) that Apple will take the opportunity to revise the MBP pricing too ( and all other hardware) ...

I very much doubt CA pricing will be the same as US.. owing to any import taxs etc etc, but a reduced price gap will be much welcome.

My guess is that the press are going to recieve invites to an event/keynote thing next week...hence the Nov 6th thing! :D see the logic! Enabling all the aluminium casing/re-design rumours to kick off like mad in the next 7 days! ;)

I expect a silent update just like the Macbook Pro.

Mac Pro Please

I just want a MAC PRO already, damn it! Its been too long... I know if I upgrade now I'll be disappoited by an update in a month

The current (aluminum) iMacs were announced as part of an event, not with just a press release.

wasn't it at the WWDC? They also ran a tv spot for the new imac, too. Doubt you'll see that with the macbook update.

Update again in 2 months?

There is no way they will update Macbook in Nov. and then again in January. The next update would be summer '08. Can :apple: really wait that long to have a consolidated (read: aluminum) product line? Never fear MBP people, I think Jan. will show an all-new, really cool product!

Well im anxiously waiting for this. My 3 year old imac is starting to show its age. All though it runs leopard well it is just plain slow at editing video. I hope they upgrade the hard drives. You can buy a laptop for 800 that has 2gb's of ram and a 250gb hard drive.

I suspect the HD will get a big boost, don't know about the RAM as Apple likes to make serious coin on that. My year old 120G MB feels cramped now.

Which makes me wonder why users are expecting an event of some sort.

An event would signify some sort of dramatic change...a silent update might leave a lot of those people disappointed when it is relatively minor compared to some of the rumors floating around (e.g. multitouch, screen sizes, etc).

Nope, it wasn't at WWDC. It was an August 7th press event. But, they also released iLife 08 at that event so it was more than just the iMac. If the MB is only getting SR, it will be a quiet update I'm guessing.

I only expect to see Santa Rosa.

Aluminum might come as well but I don't think there needs to be that much fanfare over it.

Makes sense.
No need for an update in January if the MB is updated tomorrow.

At MWSF the focus will be on revising the MBP.

And hopefully more about programs for the iPod Phone & Touch!

Are we thinking this will just be a speed improvement? I'd think they'd wait till MacWorld to release a design change - right?
Apple is not going to do a speed bump now and a design change in January. The iPod and iMac have gone from plastic to aluminum and glass so I expect the MacBook to ditch the plastic and get aluminum and glass. The iBook morphed into the MacBook without any fanfare, so changing the case design won't be anything "special". Steve will use MacWorld to introduce new hardware such as a new notebook and/or another tower model.

just my luck

so I got bit by leopard and went out and got me a macbook...and this morning I opened it and started setting it up...and I see that new stuff is coming tomorrow or soon...argh!!!!!!!!!!!

what do you guys suppose I could do? should I return this thing? can I return it? thanks

If you opened it, I think there's a 10% restocking fee if returned within 14 days. See if they actually do update it tomorrow or next Tuesday; test in in the store. If it seems worth the $110-$150 for the upgrade, then just return it and pay the fee. In the meantime, if it's already opened, just enjoy your new MacBook.
