Wireless charging does produce more heat so that is a factor. worst case scenario you have to replace the battery and it’s $99 so not going to break the bank. Also, if you’re replacing your phone every two years or less you don’t have to worry about it.Always get concerned with faster charging generating more heat and killing the battery lifespan.
Agreed, but I recently got a Twelve South stand for half price, so will be happy with 15W for now as I only really charge overnight.Wireless charging does produce more heat so that is a factor. worst case scenario you have to replace the battery and it’s $99 so not going to break the bank. What is new about the new Magsafe charging puck that Apple announced yesterday?
A little bit crazy that a bunch of MFI products got refreshed this summer and are immediately behind the curve in terms of charging capability. I wonder if we'll get early/mid-cycle updates or if they will wait until next year and ride it out.Agreed, but I recently got a Twelve South stand for half price, so will be happy with 15W for now as I only really charge overnight.
I know, but there’s always better around the corner. I refused to pay £150 for a stand, so grabbed the bargain while I could.A little bit crazy that a bunch of MFI products got refreshed this summer and are immediately behind the curve in terms of charging capability. Interesting! Any side-by-side pictures of the thickness difference, or measurement?Just got my unit and it no longer fits in the stand that I 3D printed. It appears the diameter of the new puck is just a tad smaller than the original. I tested with two brand new MagSafe pucks, so it’s definitely not a one-off mistake.
The new units are also quite a bit thinner overall.
Sure! Left is the original, right is the new model.Interesting! Any side-by-side pictures of the thickness difference, or measurement?
Is the enclosure for the new model still metal? Hard to tell from you pic, almost looks plastic.Sure! Left is the original, right is the new model.
so much for being an environmentally friendly company, pug charge makers like Nomad and Twelve south has to go back to drawing board for the same product.Just got my unit and it no longer fits in the stand that I 3D printed. Same - don't need fast wireless charging and hate the heat. Was tempted to buy this charging puk but think I’ll use my MacBook charging cable instead seeing as it’s usbc.
I have, the pug comes out as you pickup your phone. A tailored double sided tape covering the entire back might work, but I really can’t be bothered.Twelve South Customer Support claims the Forté is compatible with the new MagSafe charger. I’m struggling to see how this is possible given the size changes. Has anyone been able to test it out?
So my gen 1 official apple magsafe charger will still cap out at 15W(with 16pro)? What did they change in the puck, I thought it was all based on the brick/port/phone limit you were using anyway.
Me too. I try and charge wired as much as I can. Wireless charging generates way too much heat for my liking.Same - don't need fast wireless charging and hate the heat.
Rather get 40-45W wired fast charging so I'll use either my 61W MBP or 30W MBA Apple USB-C charger.
