I can see them changing the pencil if they need to move magnets to, say, connect to a new iPad Mini...

I'd love an actual eraser on the end. Not an actual actual one :p as in not one that would work on graphite on paper, but one where you spin the pencil around to use the eraser on-screen. I think that would be easier to use than double-tap, and would free up double-tap for something else.
Exactly, more than 2 "features" on the Apple pencil would be great, right now its like being stuck w a 1 button mouse.

Why is it due for an upgrade? It seems people like it like it is. What’s the point in accelerating the development progress of apple products if people are buying the current ones hand over fist?
Only so much bandwidth you can have to innovate, and there are other areas that are far bigger opportunities than the Apple Pencil which remains completely unmatched in the market.

Apple doesn't look at their current position compared to competition to determine wether a product is worth further innovating. If they think it is worth releasing a new Pencil, they must have good reasons and I am looking forward to seeing what they have in mind :).

As per the glossy finish, let's also trust the process and see what the ID team has in mind! (Maybe matt just looks odd on the new ipad pros)
