So both USB-C and magnet charging?

(EDIT): Why is everyone downvoting this? It's just a question...?
Because your question, which implied that the new Apple Pencil did in fact have both features (and you know that the implication was there), was addressed in the article. It clearly states it doesn’t magnetically charge.

Now, if the article was edited later to clarify that but didn’t originally include that information, that’s a different story. But then your edit should address that instead of the people downvoting your leading question.

In the end, don’t take it personally. It’s a comment on a rumor site. It doesn’t matter. There are so many more important tings to worry about :)

This is a replacement for the Gen 1 only
It’s only a partial replacement for the Pencil 1, because apparently you can’t use it with the Lightning iPads. So if you have both a Lightning and a USB-C iPad, you still need two different Pencils. In addition, the Pencil 1 supports pressure sensitivity which the new USB-C Pencil doesn’t, so it’s rather a downgrade for the 10th-gen iPad.

Apple makes the most oddest decisions ever. They should have just replaced the 1st gen with this new one and kept pressure sensitivity. If you wanted magnetic charge and taps, then buy 2nd generation. 🤷‍♂️
Remember that the compatibility for each pencil is different because they upgraded the screens. The USB-C Pencil is not compatible with all of the devices than the Gen 1 Pencil is.

This is a cheaper Gen 2, not a Gen 1 replacement.

Ugh, the hidden charging port is nice for those who either can't charge on the side (like if they're using a case) but the lack of everything else is kind of disappointing.

Apple Pencil pro will becoming.

And then we can read 300 posts of people ranting about Apple charging MORE for MORE features.*

*typed by the always-charged, always-with-me, 10 "pencils" with various tip sizes hanging off the ends of my hands... priced at $0 and compatible with all iDevices. In decades now, I've never lost any of them, nor left them behind and they seem to easily adapt to all new technologies that come along... apparently already fully compatible with upcoming Vpro too.

Why on earth couldn't they have just made this new one compatible with lighting through an adaptor and gotten rid of the 1st gen pencil?
They are also compatible with a completely different set of iPads (but both supports the iPad 10th gen).

iPad 10th Gen still have a non-laminated displayed. They rather release a new Pencil for it, instead of putting in a laminated display and call it the iPad 11th Gen. They basically just solved a problem, they created themselves!
How could that be a solution? I didn't understand.

What a worthless product . Just Buy the Apple Pencil 2 for $85 on sale regularly….
This more for people with the recent low end iPad. It can't work with the Pencil 2 and before this could only work with the Pencil 1 with the lighning port in its butt. Now they have a USB-C Pencil.

Apple's Pencil product "line" is kind of a mess of incompatibility.

Apple: Logitech Crayon is taking all our monies we are struggling! Quick release a half-baked product to shut them out.
Very much what’s going on here.

But also to offer something that looks new and is incompatible with Lightning iPads, but also comes in at a lower price.

This is a very confusing mix and match of features and compatibility.

Seems like it’s missing some features of the 1st generation Pencil?

Makes a lot of sense to me.

If the latest entry-level iPad is anything to go by, then future models will also have a landscape FaceTime camera in places of the Pencil charging hardware. Potentially this means no more wireless charging, only magnetic attachment.

Also - given it features USB-C it can be used by all iPads, unlike the 1st Gen.

I just wish people would read the full article before asking a hundred questions and not using their common sense. This is likely marketed as an entry level Pencil for note taking, not an artistic tool. Apple's website is even updated tp breakdown the differences into a nice table.

But it does have tilt that those $29 Amazon ones don’t have so it’s not a fair comparison. And do they pair in lag with Apple Pencil?

Still, I don’t know what to think of Apple Pencil. I’ve had 1st Gen for years with my iPad mini 5, but I’ve yet to really use it, like ever. I do graphic design and photographs, and learned that as I do not draw, it’s maybe not so useful for me. Note taking I really on markdown anyway.
Had a cheap one for 24€ here in Germany, it charged wireless on the side of the iPad, it had tilt and palm rejection. Quite nice, but the software was 💩. Turned on when putting it to the side for charging, meaning the keyboard won’t pop up and stuff like that. Returned it.

Crazy to think that they are keeping the Apple Pencil (1st Generation) and at the same $99 price to boot! Which sane person wants to pay $20 extra to continue charging their pencil with a lightning-USB C adapter and no magnetic attachment just to have pressure sensitivity?
Those who want to use a Pencil with their Lightning iPad.

Not everyone buys an Apple or other name brand product out of ignorance. If they buy it with an iPad and AC+ it's covered. Or they simply want to know it works; or it is easy to just pick up one at an Apple Store.

In addition, many of the cheap ones lack Bluetooth connectivity, so features enabled by it won't work with clones. From a quick perusal of Amazon many are not "perfect" clones.

That's not to say a clone isn't a good choice for a user; just that buying an "expensive" pencil may be the right choice for other users.
I think a lot is simple out of ignorance ("want to know that it works"), as these clones work just as well as the Logitech Crayon, since the use the same tech. While the $15 probably don't have bluetooth (which basically only allows you to know battery life left from the iPad), the better ones have not only bluetooth but also magnetic charging and compatibility with lightning iPads, that this one lacks... And they cost half the price of this one.
Sure it's convenient to get it at the store for $80 instead of $15 or $30 on Amazon, but that's the same with everything, you can buy your iPad (mini or whatever) at $500 at the store or at $400 on Amazon, both are fine.

PS As a side note for those having multiple iPads one (small) advantage of the clones is that they work with several iPads ad the same time, while you need to pair the Apple pencil to a (single) device for it to work

The overcomplication and ******tification of APPLE continues.

There are way too many redundant products, confusing product names, and crappy prices for consumers

IMHO every Apple computer and mobile device should only be organized into 3 products named: Name of Product - Air, Name of product, and Name of Product - Pro

iPhone Air(SE), iPhone, iPhone Pro
iPad Air, iPad, iPad Pro
Macbook Air, Macbook, Macbook Pro
iMac Air, iMac, iMac Pro
Mac Air (Mac Mini), Mac (mac studio), Mac Pro

I also am frustrated by the chip naming! Just like with the device line, IMHO every chip should be only organized into 3 names: M#Air (Was M#), M#(Was M#Pro and Max), M#Pro (Was Ultra)

Apple are likely to stop selling the Apple Pencil (1st generation) as soon as they are no longer shipping an iPad with Lightning.
That would be bad for owners of a Lighting iPad who want to replace their Pencil when the battery degrades.

And if the various pros and cons of each Pencil wasn’t confusing enough already, they are also all named “Apple Pencil”

Obviously, this is all just more decoys to annoy consumers enough until they bite the bullet and buy an iPad Pro and 2nd Gen. Pencil to get every single feature and convenience.
