Cant see why theres that restriction however I guess very soon ALL new iPads regardless will have USBC ports even the entry level one.Apple Pencil (USB-C) is only compatible with iPads that have a USB-C port.

It would be easier if they made gen x, y and z pencils. What a strange product.
Reading the introduction literally spells out how much of a mess this line-up is.
“Apple Pencil (1st generation) works with iPad (10th generation), and the Lightning port on iPad (9th generation) makes it easy to quickly connect Apple Pencil (1st generation) for pairing and charging.”
Apple, what are you saying?
“iPad users can pick the perfect Apple Pencil that is compatible with their iPad model, including Apple Pencil (2nd generation), Apple Pencil (USB-C), and Apple Pencil (1st generation).”
Apple loves their adjectives, Pro, Max, Ultra… this is where they should actually be used!
“Apple Pencil SE” would have been better, giving the best version of the pencil a “Pro” would have been fine, but what is this strategy?
Because Apple assumes that if you have a lightning iPad you might not have a UBS C cable, which is necessary both for charging and pairing this pencilCant see why theres that restriction however I guess very soon ALL new iPads regardless will have USBC ports even the entry level one.
No, it's not. It's intented as a replacement for the Generation 1 Apple Pencil for iPad 10 users, is it not?![]()
meanwhile the clones work with both and in addition also work with lightning iPad from 2018 onAs expected, this solves the messy lineup where the newest iPads only worked with the old Pencil. This new Pencil works across both screen technologies.
Price point. Pick features, pay your price.No. Magnet, but no magnetic charging.
Also, no double tap and no pressure sensitivity.
Totally confusing to introduce yet another pencil with yet another feature subset. Presumably they'll keep selling all of them. They had a chance to reduce the mess, and they made it bigger.
No, it does not make sense.Makes a lot of sense to me.
If the latest entry-level iPad is anything to go by, then future models will also have a landscape FaceTime camera in places of the Pencil charging hardware. Potentially this means no more wireless charging, only magnetic attachment.
Also - given it features USB-C it can be used by all iPads, unlike the 1st Gen.
I just wish people would read the full article before asking a hundred questions and not using their common sense. This is likely marketed as an entry level Pencil for note taking, not an artistic tool. Apple's website is even updated tp breakdown the differences into a nice table.
Well now, I am that one person who actually really enjoyed the Mother Nature skit!Yaaaaaaaawn.
Anyone else think this is just as bad as the Mother Nature skit at the iPhone event?
Exactly - because Apple wants you buy a higher-spec iPad for that. Shrewd but it's truth. No, it does not make sense.
This would mean all entry-level iPads moving forward will not support pressure sensitivity, a significant downgrade from iPad 9 + Apple Pencil 1 combo.
When new iPads come out, the Apple Pencil 2 will probably become the mid-tier product, and an Apple Pencil 3 will have replaceable tips... for $149 😉ok let’s add a third Apple Pencil to an already confusing accessory lineup, for an iPad line which is bloated and confused in its own right.
The actual product is such a confusing move that nobody would have thought it plausible. Supply chain leaks always just have some scraps of information, so guessing that it would be a Pencil 3 made sense. How did every single rumor source get this one wrong?
Weirder than this:This is the weirdest product I’ve seen from Apple in a long time.
They won’t put a laminated display on the entry-level iPad, that’s what the iPad Air is for (and the iPad mini).iPad 10th Gen still have a non-laminated displayed. They rather release a new Pencil for it, instead of putting in a laminated display and call it the iPad 11th Gen. They basically just solved a problem, they created themselves!
If they add a Taptic Engine, it could become dual-use.Will there be an Apple Pencil Pro Max?![]()
No magnet charging or pairing (only via USB C) but it does magnetically attached. Apple will need to work on their naming convention to avoid confusion. Essentially the Pencil gen 2 is a Pencil Pro. Or think of this new one as a Pencil SE.So both USB-C and magnet charging?
(EDIT): Why is everyone downvoting this? It's just a question...?
