The worst part about people parroting the Steve Jobs line is they don’t even understand itThis is actually an interesting rumor. Not just because a new Pencil3, meh. But rather to see what tech and form factor Apple puts in a new pencil. If it was smaller and iPhone Pro Max length it would be very interesting. iPhone badly needs to support a pencil, and making an iPhone-size pencil would fire me up for iPhone 16 Pro Max possibilities: "one more thing..."
Some wag usually chimes in with a quote of Steve dissing on styli, but that is just silly, a different era; iPhone 15 Pro is not your grandfather's PDA. 2024 iPhones are entirely different devices, with users like me marking up 45 MP RAW captures on an iPhone in almost real time. Calloused XL hands do not make very good smartphone input devices.
As others have mentioned, potential usage with AVP is also very interesting.
You'll need to buy the new iGripI hope they make it ‘grippier’.
Current Apple Pencils (especially #2), is so slippery in hand that I need to buy a third party grip.
I'd like it to be double-ended, so I can flip it over to use as a rubber/eraser.
Jobs was referring to the ability to use and navigate the phone using a finger, and he was correct. you don't need a stylus for that, unless you design crap interfaces like MS did prior to the iPhone launch. The worst part about people parroting the Steve Jobs line is they don’t even understand it
Jobs’ argument was you shouldn’t NEED a stylus, not that you shouldn’t have one
Nobody in their right mind would argue artists should stick to finger painting, certain use cases are obviously more fit for a stylus, general usage is just not one of them
Everyone is just taking that whole thing out of context because they’re either desperate to prove the man wrong or prove that Apple has lost their way 🤷♂️

Its odd how some people don't seem able to comprehend this.
Anyway on the pencil, I have been using gen2 since launch without issues. Great accessory and look forward to seeing what they have [hopefully not glossy......].
New lineup: Apple Pencil and Apple Pencil Pro. Watch.
I was hoping this would be like that time where Apple fired off a press release a day a few days in a row. Unless iOS 17.4 counts, I guess not.I guess we still have to wait a few weeks for the iPad launch press release. This anticipation is killing me I just want updated mini 7.

Come on, the pencil will not have 256 Gigs or storage for quite a few years yet!The Apple Pencil 3 will work with the top half of the 12.9" iPad Pro, while the Apple Pencil 2.5 works with the bottom half and the green, black and blue iPad Airs. Yellow, pink and starburst colored iPads will need the Apple Pencil 2, unless you have the models with 256 Gigs of storage, in which case you need the Apple Pencil 4. The Apple Pencil 4 is also what you will need for the iPad mini 5 and the smaller iPad Pro Model.
Got it?
You will be surprised how much adding haptic feedback to the pencil can make a difference. On my Surface Laptop Studio I get haptic feedback while using my Slim Pen 2 and at first I thought it would be a gimmick, but it really does add the feel of friction and makes it feel like you are writing on paper.Apple Pencil holds way more potential than Apple has exploited.
Personally, I’d like it to be shorter and fatter. More like a sketch pencil than a drafting pen:

Hexagonal body, grippy surface (not gloss.)
It should also have an “eraser” on one end for instant flipping and erasing.
Other additions could include swappable tips (already rumored) that give a more natural feel to things like markers and brushes.
Either a clicky switch or a Taptic Engine for tactile feedback.
Find My functionality with a little speaker so that it can make a sound when lost.
Some after market companies make screen protectors that make the pencil actually feel like a pencil when you use it. I doubt Apple would release a textured screen, but they may be able to make the pencil tip react more naturally or even use a Taptic Engine to make it rumble a little to replicate paper feel. (Yes, I know this would use too much battery to be practical. I’m just spitballing.)
Different color choices.
The pencil can and should be a lot more than it is right now.

Of course they won't! That's insane... Apple would NEVER do that.... =)Eagerly waiting to see the capabilities of the new Pencil. Hope Apple won't increase the prices.
Yeah at this point this is one of the first things I think about as well…Wonder what artificially-enforced “limitation” this will have for older iPads.
