I have the Apple Smartcase. I like it but I'm not happy about the fact the the cover doesn't seem to be held magnetically on the back of the iPad when I flip it to use it.

I'm going to go back to Apple and see if this is a quality control or design issue.

My old iPad2 cover stuck to the back great. This one does not.

That's a design issue as you call it or a design choice as Apple would call it.

The Apple Store FAQ listed the SmartCase as 10.9oz. This is a significant weight increase compared to the 1lbs iPad Air.

However, the build quality is excellent and the design is very professional. Unfortunately, the SmartCase is a temporary measure for me until lighter thinner brand name cases are available to use with the SmartCover.

I bought the smart cover, which i love, but i'm wondering now if i should have got the smart case.

What's it like when you folder the front back and just holding the iPad, does the flappy bit get annyoing?

10.9oz? That's like the weight of the mini. Are you sure that's right?

Its 5.3oz :) It's not even 10.9oz with the box included lol

I think I'll be getting the black smart case and returning my red smart cover. Weight isn't that big of an issue for me, and I need to protect the back.

Just put the blue case on my silver iPad Air. It fits well and folds back nicely. It is easy to hold the Air with the case on but I do notice the increased weight. Not an issue for me as it is used at home in my lap for the most part. The case looks and feels nice but obviously can't say how it will look over time.

Is it still lighter than previous generation iPads with the case on?

You don't need to get a case for that. Alternatively you can just use the Smart Cover and get a TPU back cover to protect the back. That's a lot lighter and less bulky solution in my opinion. That's what I'm doing with my iPad 3 at the moment.

It does not stick. Don't bother going back to the store (unless you plan to return it).

I bit the bullet and got the black smart case. Quality wise it's great. Practical wise, I prefer my Targus 360 degrees case that had the rigid stand. It wasn't wobbly when placed on your chest hands free in bed whereas this one is more clumsy. On the couch and especially on a desk/table, this case is awesome. The triangle fold sometimes has difficulty maintaining its form though which gets annoying.

I'm half tempted to return this 85 dollar piece of leather and microfiber and getting a Zagg Folio Keyboard case. My mate got one and I was quite impressed.

So, how are your cases holding up so far? I think the red one will especially be prone to developing those dark areas over time.

I won't be buying one because they are too limited in the positions that you can position your iPad in.

I've got the Targus Versavu for my iPad Air, I received it a few days ago, seems a really good case and it provides me with the all important portrait viewing angle that the Apple cases do not, and it was a lot cheaper too than the Apple Case. Don't get me wrong there's nothing wrong with the Apple cases, it's just I want a few different viewing angles, portrait viewing angles, and the Apple cases don't provide this.

Bought the blue Smart Case with my Air. Hated it. Too bulky and made it look childlike so I returned it. Just bought a red Smart Cover and Belkin rear snap shield. Have used this combo on my mini and past iPads and love it.

Wouldn't the Smart Cover and back cover make it more heavy than a smart case though?

Guys, I am facing a dilemma here...
I have ordered an iPad air and the apple smart case in blue. I have a white 5s with the apple blue case. I ordered the same combo on the iPad to match the iPhone and protect the iPad.
Now I have been reading some mixed reviews and thoughts here and am wondering if I should cancel the order for the smart case.
My reasoning:

The iPad air is a major redesign focused on weight and size reduction to make it more manageable while hand holding.
I am afraid the smart case will compromise that goal.

I used my iPad 4 for a year, 95% of the time at home. I will use the air with the same usage type, so I am wondering if a full case is needed for protection.

I am thinking about using it naked and have a sleeve to keep the iPad while not in use.
Is the back aluminium case of the iPad resistant enough to be scratch and damage free with such usage?

What are your thoughts on this? What did you do and do you regret it?

Thank you.
Cheers!

Got the leather smart case in black to match my IP5s. It is perfect and very light ( 5 oz per another forum member). Try it and you'll love it.

I would recommend you to read this to get an idea about the scope of the problem concerning the iPhone 5/5S leather case. https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/1633562/

It's not really a "problem"... Leather ages and attracts dirt. It's what the material does. I'd be disappointed if my leather iPhone case doesn't have that happen to it, it's what I expect it to do.

The majority of people complaining about the leader cases showing signs of wear (however long they've had it) are just uneducated on how leather works..

You can't compare the leather case for a iPad and iPhone as far as wear and tear goes. The iPhone is given more abuse in terms of where its stored and the amount of usage/situations it goes through daily. Whereas the iPad is never going to be stored in your jean pockets, etc.

I have the red smart case and I like it so far. I only use the iPad air at home so I think it will hold up just fine.
