We are in dire need of one in Fresno! The nearest store is over 150 miles away, we have a metro population of 1 million +, and there are three universities in the area, including the new University of California Merced, and Fresno State University (student pop. 22,000). Its a mystery to me how such locations as Reno, Nevada and Omaha, Nebraska could get Apple stores before the Fresno market.

Both the places you mention have large regions they draw from and the Reno market has a large tourist base as well. Add to that both locations are stores in malls that Apple has a relationship with and I think you get a picture of why. Does need to make much sense to us, but I'm sure Apple has many factors, as evilgEEk mentions, in their decision making process. None of which negates the points you make. Fresno needs a store and likely will get one soon.

Dallas area store to open April 8th

Apple has officially announced the opening of the Southlake Town Square store this weekend, April 8th at 10:00 am. This is the fourth store in the Dallas/Ft. Worth metro area and the eighth in the state of Texas. One more store is scheduled to open in the Houston area later this year.

Hey, try folks in Northern New England. Boston is closest here. Maybe an Apple Montreal? Then I could go to Ikea, Loblaws and Apple in the same trip! (It takes me an hour and a half to get to the big M, as opposed to 4 for Boston!)

See, all you have to do is ask. Apple is recruiting personnel for a store in the Le Carrefour Laval mall in Montreal. It should open in the late summer to September.

Eaton's Centre Store Toronto, UPDATE

Very minor update on the Eaton's Centre Store, last week they had finished the walls and it looked like they were working on the floor. When I went by tonight they had duct tape covering the crack in the door. At any rate it looks like the Yorkdale Mall has done a bunch of hiring since Christmas and they're probably keeping them over staffed to shift employees to the new store downtown. Still don't know when it will open, but I'd bet it's a few months away.

Now if they'd only do something about the 1.5 million or so of us who live in the Upper Central Mississippi Valley i.e. Madison, Rockford, Cedar Rapids, Waterloo, Iowa City, Quad Cities, and Dubuque.

Or the entire state of Kansas!

Geez, they're popping up everywhere. I'm going to walk into my basement sometime and there's going to be one there. I'll be like "cool" and walk back upstairs, but you know I'll be robbing it later.

Daniel.

The store in Eatons Center in Toronto is opening next weekend May 6th.
I`ll be there since the store at yorkdale doesn`t have the iMac with the upgraded video card and they are clueless there when if they `ll even get it.

Hoping that the one in eatons center will have them since I got the store credit for my MBP today.

While I wasn't sure about the date, I had a peek into the store front and it does look almost ready. The 6th seems early... but not out of the realm of possibility, there's a sign saying the store next to it is opening in early May... I don't know if this would apply to the Apple store as well. Is there some offical announcement out?

As kristian21 pointed out I've now heard word (and can confirm) that the Eaton Centre Apple store here in Toronto will open up May 6th. Anybody know if they'll give out the traditional t-shirts? ;)

Well I'll probably find out anyway... :D

I find it funny that my place was less than 10 minutes drive away from Yorkdale, then I move downtown, now I'm a 20 minute walk away from this one. I think apple is stalking me... or at least trying to ensure their profit levels.

Raid, in their announcement Apple says there will be the T-shirt giveaway to the first 1,000 people and a sweepstakes prize worth $2229. Enjoy! ;)

Birmingham?

Long interval here with no posts!

There's a new post on the ifo Apple Store forum about Apple having reserved a spot at the Summit for next year. How often in advance does Apple typically announce stores or post job listings?

Can't remember if it's 6 or 9 months prior to the store opening?! Excuse my ignorance but is it Brum as in England or elsewhere?? ;)

Apple Store Providence RI

If anyone cares...
The Apple Store was rumored to be opening in June.
I was just at the mall yesterday, and got a peak inside the construction barriers. Its still in the very early stages of construction. Looks like it will be a while...

Nope, the Birmingham on the other side of the pond (and then some), in Alabama.

Bakey is right. It is typically 6 to 9 months from the posting of job listings to opening of the doors. However, in a few cases it has been much longer. The Lincoln Road store in Miami Beach is coming up on two years since its first posting of job listings (a new record,) but that is due to legal problems that stalled the transfer to Apple. Hope all works out smoothly in Birmingham.

btw, one of the reasons for the interval between posts is that much of the 2006 openings discussion has taken place in this thread.

Cherry Hill, NJ? Has anyone reported it yet.

There's an Apple Store going up in Cherry Hill Mall, in Cherry Hill, NJ. Don't know if this has been reported yet, but this will be the 9th in Jersey, tieing Jersey with Florida and Texas, trailing only California and New York.

This is actually going to be the closest store to downtown Philadelphia, about 15 minutes away. Still downtown Philly (Center City) is conspicuously absent from the list of Apple stores. Is this Apple's way of thanking Springboard Media and Bundy Computer, two long-time (and very good) Apple specialty stores? Or is Apple trying to get the National Park Service to put the Liberty Bell in an Apple store? Just think of the fabulous lighting job Apple could do. Something about the Apple with the bite out of it and the Bell with the crack in it juxstapose nicely against eachother

I posted this in May, but it's worthy of a new discussion. I've been talking up the need for high-profile stores in Philadelphia and Washington for some time now and while I'm glad to see more stores go into the Philly metro area (you also have a new one going into Atlantic City) it doesn't quite make the same statement that the new Bolyston store in Boston does. Something big and splashy in downtown Philly has GOT to be in order soon!

It's really difficult to put one in Center City Philadelphia.

The Gallery (mall) isn't upscale enough, even though with the Federated buyout of May Dept. Stores, there will likely be a Macy's there. There is a Lord & Taylor where the John Wanamaker store was. There also is Liberty Place, which has a number of small stores and fast food places. Chestnut Street at Rittenhouse Square is very upscale but hardly has room and the neighbourhood would probably object to a big black box being plunked down there. There was a store dealing in Apple equipment in that area. They need foot traffic with the money to lead to potential (or real) sales.

They could change tactics and open a store in or next to Chinatown. It would be near The Gallery, Reading Terminal Market, The Pennsylvania Convention Center, and the historical sites. However, it would be more of a risk.

cool...maybe i will attend another opening back when school starts

San Luis Obispo, CA

Local paper has an article on a possible apple store in downtown SLO. Kind of a shame, because there is a great independent in town, and they have really expanded with the surge of the ipod. They have even remodeled their store to kinda look like apple stores, though kinda not in a way too.

anyway, linky

Thanks! It's news to me; I'll include it on my list.
