Sure hope you can buy it separately and use it on current ATV’s
You can already turn on a receiver/tv with the current appletv. you have to look into hdmi control on the receiver but it’s possible to turn on the tv and have the tv turn on the receiver. Both need it turned onLooks really nice, and finally brings back the scroll wheel! A dedicated mute button and power button are also very nice additions, and there will no longer be a question as to which end is up.
Does anyone know if there will be a way to also use the power button to turn on an amp? With the apparent demise of Harmony, I need something that can control my entire system, or that at least can do so for basic functions.
Thank you. I'll play with those settings tonight! You can already turn on a receiver/tv with the current appletv. you have to look into hdmi control on the receiver but it’s possible to turn on the tv and have the tv turn on the receiver. Both need it turned on
I was surprised by this as well. This omission shows how carefully Apple walls off one development group from another, occasionally to their detriment.I was expecting the new Siri remote to have a “locator” feature. So that when it falls in the couch cushions, somehow you can send it a message to start beeping.
Since they released the new Siri remote with AirTags, I’m shocked no one’s said anything about a S8r Remote integration with Find My.
no one’s heard anything about this have they?

But how many cheap remotes feature voice input, touch controls and work without line of sight?By far the most I’ve ever seen for a non-programmable remote like. Logitech Harmony.
Apple Tax indeed.
The shields remote does. Also has a find feature but you have to use your phones app to go into settings to activate it. So it’s not great. But how many cheap remotes feature voice input, touch controls and work without line of sight?
This is most evident from the differences in Siri between their products. A closed ecosystem is should have the benefit of integration and handing off tasks back and forth between HomePod, Watch, Phone and AppleTV.I was surprised by this as well. I’m thinking that can’t be why. They’ve opened Find My up to third party developers. Like Chipolo is the 3rd party version of AirTags. If 3rd parties have access to it, surely the ATV group does?I was surprised by this as well. The rumors have been that this AppleTV has been ready for release for almost 2 years.I’m thinking that can’t be why. They’ve opened Find My up to third party developers. Like Chipolo is the 3rd party version of AirTags. If 3rd parties have access to it, surely the ATV group does?
Too little too late. My Sony's built in Android TV is just fine and requires no switching or remote swapping, I'm too used to it now. Turns out it was never about the hardware or the platform; just need to get to Netflix and YouTube, doesn't matter whose box or UI it sits on.
I would have been more excited to learn about a new Apple TV app for smart TV's that allows for all ATV functionality.
