Does HFR from iPhone 12 still play in 444 on the new AppleTV?
I have done some testing, and 4:4:4 at 60 Hz can apparently only be selected on the Apple TV when you turn off HDR.

I don't know if Airplay can stream without chroma subsampling. I doubt it though (remember that it sends compressed video, since the bandwidth over Wifi is much smaller than over HDMI).

I gave my brother my old Apple TV (4th gen) and pre-ordered the new 4K. While I was waiting for that to arrive, I had gotten a brand new free Chromecast with Google TV as a YouTube TV promo from Google, so I started using it as a short-term streaming option. I never thought I’d say this, but I think I might cancel my Apple TV 4K order. I’m usually all-in with Apple products, but the Chromecast does everything I need for my streaming purposes. The fact that it has Apple TV+ as a channel makes it even better.

And even if you'd paid for it -- it costs less than just the Siri Remote does

I’m lovin’ the new remote

I prob said it already but I just love this thing ! ❤️

Put the old one in the trash , quite literally 😆

"The prior version of the Siri remote included an accelerometer and gyroscope that allowed it to be used as a controller for Apple TV games, but the new remote does not have that functionality and Apple instead expects users to play games with Bluetooth controllers."

So how do you play games that have been purchased but need the touch pad, accelerometer, and gyroscope features of the 1st gen Siri remote? Is there a way for the 4K HDR to "learn" the 1st gen remote? I saw mention in the article about an Siri remote for the iPhone but I don't see one in the app store. Was hoping the iPhone could be used a game controller using the Siri remote app.

There should be too many games that outright require the first-generation Siri Remote to be used, as Apple stopped requiring developers to support the Siri Remote back in 2016, less than a year after the first-generation Apple TV was released.

That doesn't mean it's not still possible, of course, but you're probably better off with a standard Bluetooth game controller in most games, although if you're using one that really wants the accelerometer features (I can think of a couple that I used to play that probably wouldn't work as well any other way), then you can pair the first-generation Siri Remote with the new Apple TV — but you'll have to switch back and forth between the old and new remotes, as you can't have both paired up at the same time.
