New Apple TV and HomePod Mini Are Still Missing, Here's Why

"Works fine" is an opinion. You'll give up 4k, HDR, smoother video, facetime, smart home hub, dolby vision and spacial audio, siri remote, UI, etc. Add to that the proposed features of the next gen include faster chip for better performance and gaming, apple intelligence, wifi 7 for lower latency and faster streaming, potentially built in camera, and better pricing

Okay 9 years. the Apple TV 4K covers most of the bases. . I have the last 3 generations, 2 of them I gave my parents. there's no monumental upgrades on them. the difference between the last few gens is especially unnoticeable. I only bought the last one for thread and tuns out it's a sucky thread router anyways as my devices fail more using that Than HomePods. don't care about cameras, apple intelligence or gaming on it. Of all the devices that need wifi 7 it would be the vision pro and they gave us 6 twice...

Ethernet connected to devices around the home is niche - I can confidently say no “normal” user is wiring their home with Ethernet and connecting various speakers. Not a single Google Home or Alexa speaker has an Ethernet port, that is proof enough that it is indeed a niche need. The expectation that Apple would add it to a HomePod is absurd. You’re on MacRumors, posting in the discussion board. You are not a normal, average user.

There’s no bridge to be sold, knowing you connect a modem to your router needs an Ethernet cord is quite different than, again, having a house wired with Ethernet to connect to every device…

Just because you didn’t wired your house for Ethernet, doesn’t mean it’s niche, that is you personal belief, we that work at securing networks, I can tell you if I could, WiFi will be never used, but that’s just me, your wireless access point doesn’t have any utility without a Ethernet port to connect to the real network.

You haven’t provided any evidence that an Ethernet isn’t niche besides saying “that’s just me” which… is entirely my point. Just because YOU want it, doesn’t mean normal, average users do.

If it’s such an important, normal thing, why don’t any Amazon, Google, or Apple speakers have Ethernet? I’d love to see some evidence to support your belief it isn’t a niche feature to have Ethernet in a smart speaker.

I don’t have to back up anything, we are both entitled to our opinions.
You like wi-fi, I think is a useful, but flawed approach.

This isn’t about what either of us prefers. I couldn’t care less what you prefer. I’m laying out facts, not opinions, which does require evidence.

The actual question (as it has been from the beginning) is whether Apple should put Ethernet in the HomePod mini. I’ve laid out a pretty solid case that it would only matter to a very small group of people, which makes it hard to justify as a feature. That’s not just my opinion, it’s a practical argument.
