I think its possible for apple to allow LLM siri to work on device for the new HomePod mini.

However it will come in one of two ways.

1. Most likely piggy back off of your Apple TV 4K (A17 pro only)

If both the tv and new mini get Bluetooth 6 and Wi-Fi 7 they have the means of strong communication between devices.

Ask Siri a question it gets fired to the TV that does all the LLM work on device and fires it back to the HomePod to reply.

However my 1st gen HomePod mini’s have always been unreliable and adding this into the mix is just another point of failure in my eyes.

2. Make the new mini completely independent which would require a specialist SOC (no re-using Apple Watch chips)

There enough space in the device for a bigger more powerful enough chip for LLMs and power shouldn’t be an issue given it has to be plugged into the mains 24/7.

However, this would be super expensive in comparison and Apple have zero space in the smart speaker market to be jacking up prices.

The HomePod 2 was essentially re-engineered to be cheaper to produce because no one could justify the cost.

Essentially both have pros and cons, one being increased cost and the other being further risks to reliability and Apple need to nail Apple Intelligence now, otherwise they might as well give up.

They’ve burnt all their customer goodwill in this area.

What is the HomePod going to do if there isn't any Apple TV on the network? I know a few people with HomePods, but not a single person (other than me) that own an Apple TV.

What does “ready to launch” even mean? Like is there just new inventory just sitting in warehouses collecting dust?

My biggest complaint about the HomePod is you can’t play audiobooks that you purchased via the Apple Books store - really hope that gets fixed.

How many times have we seen a "new Apple TV release imminent" story over the last year? I need a "turning blue from holding my breath" emoji. 😅

Really hope the new Apple TV gets at least the A18 or later. With the delays, the A17 is now starting to feel ancient, and so the "new" Apple TV would already feel slightly outdated.

Are these Apple TVs and HomePod minis just sitting around waiting to be released? It’s kind of wild to launch them already a generation or two behind on chips. Even if they use something like the A16 while everything else is moving to A18, it feels out of sync. Not sure if it’s intentional cost control or just poor product timing.

I know a lot more people with aTVs than homepods 🤷‍♂️

Okay, again that's nice, but still no one has answered the question. What will the HopePod do if there is no AppleTV to piggyback from?

That just seems like a terrible idea.

Your smart TV is also siphoning massive amounts of telemetry data and spying on you to get it. I wouldnt give my TV internet access if they paid me cash

Every streaming App on your AppleTv, except maybe the Apple TV app itself, siphons are sends all your viewing and telemetry data.

Couldn't switch back to an Apple TV if I wanted to, which I don't Wife and kids can't stand the interface, and think it's too hard to switch inputs when playing from the Switch or going to broadcast TV via outdoor antenna.

I hope Apple release new Apple TV soon. I have HD version at moment and I need thread router soon when one of my Nest Protect smoke alarm expires and new smoke alarm I am looking at is matter over thread so it needs thread router. No third party hub or app needed so I can pick ecosystem I want and it will be HomeKit. My current Apple TV HD doesn’t have thread.

I rather not buy current version when new one is so close to be released and I want keep it for years like I did with HD.

come on Apple don’t cheap with the chips. Make sure the hardware is good I have 2 minis and 2 ogs you tell Siri play this everywhere on mini is in and out doesn’t sync or is a few seconds behind. A year ago one mini starts playing music when on one said a word. I had to turn off the hey siri function. Then literally yesterday siting at my desk the mini in the kitchen says sure I’ll play a station just for you and I’m like wtf for who the spirit? It’s quiet no one said a thing. The amount of manual intervention I have had to do with these things go way beyond the apple idea of it just works! Then you say this and a ton of ppl say oh mine work with no issue. So I just have bad luck? All were new unopened speakers bought from different stores. And please put a optional clock into the fabric remember they had a patent exploring that.

Why would having Apple Intelligence improve my TV experience here in the UK? I just use Apple TV to watch our terrestrial TV channels anyway, and classic TV and films bought via iTunes (or whatever it’s called now).

As others have said, who wants an out of date chip in a new product that won’t be updated for half a decade? Also, why isn’t it available in classic Apple white color?

I block my TV’s internet access as well for these three reasons:
1. Prevent Ads
2. Prevent Data Collection
3. Prevent Automatic Updates that might break something (And prevent the update available notifications when I turn on my tv)

All this is Apple releasing new product with new chips because they need to get rid of the others, there’s no actually changes, it’s like they need to get rid of old chips and have many newer ones so they swap them out. When we actual real hardware changes happen
