Holding these devices back doesn’t make any sense. Why not release them now, with the software currently available, then make a big song and dance with a software upgrade for the improved Siri?
My thoughts exactly. If Apple wants to get back to the "surprise and amaze" days of old, ship the devices with new chips (A17 or higher, N1, etc) and say/promise nothing about new Siri features. Let the hardware stand on its own. Perhaps sales might be fewer at first, but when they do ship new Siri 1.5 and then 2.0 all these devices will be capable of using it and sales will go up. No broken promises like the 15 series and a great opportunity to hype the new features all over again. Also, these are not high unit sellers, so even a slow start would not be an issue for the bottom line.

Of course, if they do announce them this week and also release Siri functions in 26.5 betas this/next week before they actually get into customers' hands, the timing would align with no broken promises.

Is Apple going to pull a Studio Display and give us an Apple TV with support for 120 Hz, but it will be double the price, and the normal priced one will just get a chip bump and drop support for some older TVs?

Seems like Apple is eager to impress and make a big splash with Siri V2.
So, releasing any home hardware products without the “new and improved Siri” would likely hinder their sales and would not align with their strategic objectives.

Don't you have smart TV with Apple TV installed or ... PS5?
The smart tv/PS5 app is lacking certain functionality that an Apple TV provides.

  • No Continue Watching function being linked across many other streaming apps
  • No iTunes Extras with Movie purchases
  • No Apple Music
  • No Apple Arcade
  • No Aerial or Snoopy Screensavers

Apple TV is something I'm fine with having no updates for years, because to be real, how much have streaming video standards changed in the past couple of years?
There is a big one coming in the background: AV1. Apple only recently started supporting the hardware decoding. True 120hz support and HDMI 2.1 support are potentially important features if you have a new(er) or high-end TV.

Also, all TVs (at almost every price point) are unbelievable spy machines. Cheap streaming sticks aren't much better...

Okay, again that's nice, but still no one has answered the question. What will the HopePod do if there is no AppleTV to piggyback from?
What do you do with your homepod that it needs an aTV? I use mine typically to check weather, set timers, turn on and off smart lights, play music, look up small facts or spellings, check measurement conversions (I have one in my kitchen), add things to my shopping list and add reminders in general, text with siri occasionally, and sometimes change my thermostat. Absolutely none of that requires an aTV…
Every streaming App on your AppleTv, except maybe the Apple TV app itself, siphons are sends all your viewing and telemetry data.
Which is very different from my TV screencapping everything displayed on its screen and phoning that home, or activating its mics to listen in and report that back without permission, etc (and yes, those are real things).
Couldn't switch back to an Apple TV if I wanted to, which I don't Wife and kids can't stand the interface, and think it's too hard to switch inputs when playing from the Switch or going to broadcast TV via outdoor antenna.
I mean, ok… how old is your TV? my TV switches inputs using CEC, when my wife starts her switch it toggles to that, toggles back to the aTV when it turns on, etc.

As far as UI goes, you do you, never scene a smart TV with an interface I liked better than Apples but to each their own
