And maybe it won't happen at all. We went through this whole new aTV anticipation thing last year...and the year before. And nothing ever materialized.

Er no. The year before last the ATV3 (1080P model) was released. And two years before that the ATV2 was released. So there's a pretty good chance that something will happen this year. As to whether it's this Tuesday, next Monday or September-who knows?!

I'm using my ATV mainly to serve movies to my Basement HT Projector, on my Main TV im using the ROKU 3 with Plex, still the best streaming solution to this point.

Another event and still no ATV4. I am tired of waiting for this phantom product.

that is the problem about waiting and not getting a product when you want it. Took forever for them to update the iMac when I needed it.

I really wish Apple would just let the PS4 have iTunes as well as other streaming devices.

I'll add my 2cents

larger internal storage

and ability to add external usb drive. I HATE when a movie stutters in the middle because of bandwidth issues!

What features are you looking for that the current model doesn't have? The current model does everything I want right now, but, in the future, I will be looking for 4K (or, 3840x2160) at 60 fps.

At some point I could see any or all of the following (maybe not all at once and it might be 2-3 generations before the list is totally fulfilled).

1. A graphics set up strong enough for at least 4k if not even 8K, at 120fps or even 240fps. Even perhaps strong enough for 3D data

2. bluetooth 4.0

3. 802.11ac with the capability to adhoc networks without having to actually have outside internet access (great for classrooms, board rooms etc)

4. More storage for downloading rentals. Even perhaps being able to set up your ATV to preload the newest unwatched title on a season pass so that it's ready to go when you get home.

5. An app store so that you can choose what you put on your ATV screen rather than this clumsy 'opt out' system of using restrictions to hide stuff. (although the ability to restrict 3rd party apps should be added to the general iOS). Even if it's just restricted to the same kind of viewing apps that they are loading now.

6. Built in sound support. Not speakers per se but the ability to attach them or even just use bluetooth to attach multiple speakers in stereo modes.

7. the content to use all of it.

----------

9. Direct 3D support, with ability to downconvert 3D into 2D

highly unlikely since all content is digital store so they would just bundle the 3d with the 2d and you could pick which one you want to use.

I'd like to see the airplay mirroring/extended display lag down to as close to 0 as possible...maybe even competitive with directly attached displays. So, I'd like to see a faster processor, 802.11ac, and 10/100/1000 support so that the lag becomes imperceptible. As it is, I am noticing about a half-second delay with every action.

802.11ad, with fall back to 802.11ac seems a good start. Definitely a 2015 or later feature.

I'd also put H.265 HEVC on the table as something they'll wait for - they'd want to marry that with 4K i'd imagine. The file reduction for download/streaming seems a useful feature to get into the iPhone, iPad, ATV once the silicon, codecs etc are ready. Would reduced CDN costs help with the cost of the chips?

If Apple want the ATV/new box to do games, they'll work on the lag (seems to be something iOS8 is working on using Bluetooth eg for BT controllers, midi).
