I still think Apple may put in the A18 instead of the A17 Pro SoC into the new Apple TV. This may make it possible for the next Apple TV to support Dolby Vision 2 in the future.

I think it is more likely the new Apple TV will return to having a USB-C port, which an external camera can plug into and then be far more easy to place for those who want that option.
My thoughts as well. Makes sense.

The one time a year where we all gather around our computers without our loved ones and enjoy making fun of the apple event while filling out our wish lists... is almost here.

Ready for a new Apple TV! Not because I need new features or anything; my eight-year-old unit (used daily, half the time placed in wall with minimal ventilation) is finally starting to crap out.

The same but for Time Machine would make sense. The external disk would be much better that the old TimeCapsule.

Why not put the A19 Pro chip in the Apple TV? Then you can compete with game consoles and have a powerhouse for AI related tasks.

All of these devices are getting minor updates. An increase in range for the AirTag will be very beneficial. Will be good if the M5 iPad Pro gets more RAM for 256 and 512GB variants.

That would be very useful, especially since Tahoe apparently is dropping support for TimeCapsules ( AFP is finally being depreciated )

An Apple TV and external drive is a more affordable option than a Mac Mini and external drive if you want a networked Time Machine solution and you don’t already have a NAS. Making the Apple TV not just a home hub but a mini server.

Throw in more audio out options as a bonus and this might push me over the line to buy an ATV, even though I don’t own a TV :)

And why would that be? The original 48kHz maximum limit has long since been superseded, with manufacturers now running at significantly higher bitrates - 1.5Mbps and more.

a 48khz (or any) sampling frequency does not directly correlate to a maximum bitrate

for example, a 24bit 48khz stereo signal is greater than 2Mbps.

unrelated, can we please have removable cables for Homepods? thanks.

Maybe it's just me but I see nothing they could do to either of these devices that would make that announcement exciting or worth waiting for if I was looking to buy.

AppleTV already supports Atmos and HDR?
Never mind. I suspect you mean that you need an AppleTV so it would be nice for it to be a new one with new features along with Atmos and HDR that it already has. Makes sense. Fingers crossed.

Nice little AirPlay speakers, but still hobbled by dumbshi*tery. I can't count how many times I've been said a request 2 feet from the HomePod Mini in my kitchen and had it answered, incorrectly, from the HomePod Mini in the bedroom. How the **** is it so stupid it can't figure out to answer me from the HomePod where the request was heard the loudest?

or are they expecting that the iPad Mini and Apple TV 4K will sell so few units that they can simply use up their old pile of A17 Pro chips that are lying around...
I wonder what that performance bump will be used for. I mean, Apple TV is a television-first device, yet even the oldest supported model is more powerful and reliable than most of Smart TVs.

Quite right. I meant to type 48 kHz 16-bit.

Faster responses, I hope. There's a significant gap between giving a command and the thing "waking up" and acknowledging it. There are also some ugly gaps in how long it takes to get an AirPlay stream going to a HomePod or a group of them. All of this happening crisply and quickly would help.
