I tried to get my kids into it but they don't seem interested. They would much rather play Roblox on the iPad and have a messenger open to talk to their friends at the same time playing together.

Apple needs more multiplayer type games.
I absolutely agree they need more multiplayer stuff. Just a split screen racer would be awesome. Co-op platformers too. (Sounds like I need a Wii!)

Given I hear terms like 'Matter', and 'Thread', I think we need more clarification of what the two variants of the Apple TV offer with this version.

The 64GB version allegedly does not provide Thread, or Matter support, but I'm uncertain what that means. I'm presuming if I'm out of the house, I might not be able to control things like lights or cameras that use Matter.

I kind of understand the ethernet port occlusion from the 64GB version. Most likely can stream majority of content without use of an ethernet jack.

For more widespread adoption of Matter, I don't know why it's being relegated to the 128GB version.

You can still use Matter for devices that use wifi.

I just got my new Apple TV. What items are actually in HDR10+ and how do I know if I am actually playing it? I have a Samsung TV. I do not see anything in the Apple TV app that specifically says any title plays in HDR10+.

Not for upgrading purposes....
But for Marketshare the lower price might help.... ATV is the WORSE selling streaming device in the market and always has been. HDR10+ support has been in $25 streaming sticks. The only thing ATV did others did not was add useless storage as 98% of people aren't buying and downloading digital movies or gaming on it.

The real story is made the price almost competitive.... but still a miss IMO as it's great for that 2% that needs storage and games on it. They really needed to get this $99 or less.

Apple has really tried to sell an ecosystem device that I don't think matters to most people. It's great you can view your photos and access your Apple Music Library.... but most people aren't listening to music through their TV's without a good audio system or looking at photos. Airplay to me never works as well as Google's cast.... which is buttery smooth, and you can still share most if not all that content from an Apple device to other streaming devices which makes it more niche which makes the premium price not something people have been willing to pay.

$129 price point with storage is accessible to most budgets. It still is a hard sell when you compare it to some $50 streaming sticks if you have zero use for storage which is most people.

Have you ever actually used an apple tv? The UX blows the $50 peasant streaming sticks out of the water. No lag. Everything smooth. Apps load instantly. No ads in the OS. No google/android spyware. Connects to airpods instantly. Can be controlled by iOS and watchOS devices. And the video quality in the streaming apps is the best in the market.

It's a luxury device, but it's objectively the best streaming media player.

As they say, your poor planning is not everyone else’s emergency.
I don't really care as long as someone shows/tells me it is coming. What can you do about a new product's availability. You can only order when orders open. Now the one thing is maybe they actually priced it too low.

If you look in Amazon Prime app. Their content supports HDR10+.
Your tv needs to be relatively new also.

Being fanless will reduce costs, make the device quieter, and improve long-term reliability (less parts that can fail, less dust ingested into device, etc)

Besides, the A15 is powerful enough and cool enough that it just doesn’t need a fan. Did you ever wish your iPhone or iPad had a fan?
Does the fan on the previous ones only run when gaming? I never knew they had one until reading about the new one

I read up on that when it launched, and I believe that it runs all the time. Like M1 iMac and M1 Mac mini. Fam runs as soon as you turn on and runs the full duration of use.

Makes the move to no fan one that means they are very confident in sustained performance of A15 without fan. No other A15 powered device is pushing 4K resolution constantly. And gaming can push it very quickly.

That speaks well to power and efficiency of A15

I am considering getting my first apple TV. While samsungs have great picture quality on smart tv's I'm getting bored and annoyed of their smart hub. Slow. Slow and slow lol. I have a friend who swears by it.

It’s fantastic. I’ve had them all. This current one will rock n’ roll for you for years to come.

HDR 10+ is the inferior version of Dolby Vision

The app that benefits the most from the A15 upgrade is the Apple Music app. Notably faster, but still a bit clunky overall. I also had some difficulties restoring some app store subscriptions, but signing out and back in to app store seemed to fix that. One app is now not working for me on this new Apple TV: the Magic Fireplace app.

You won’t regret getting an Apple TV. It really is the best streamer and does not get slower and bogged down over time like my old Roku did.

Thinking on the 128GB model. Good thing apple holiday extended return policy in effect. More days to try it out.

No one is saying the M1 is slow. But the M2 is faster. I have 2 Apple TV HD, a 1st Gen 4K, a 2nd Gen 4K, and at some point today, 2 3rd Gen 4K. Use them everyday. And the newer models are faster than the model that precedes them. And the same will be true for this. That doesn’t have anything to do with people saying or not saying that the old one is slow. But the new will be faster.
Definitely want a review when you get it up and running.

I'll be picking one up soon as I see it in a store, or online if we get dangerously close to Christmas time.

I will gift my existing Apple TV (about a year old now) forward to a family member who is still using a basic Roku stick, so this will be a huge upgrade for them.
That is what we are doing. In-laws seem to think having to replace a cheap, defective ROKU every year with another expensive, defective ROKU is ‘normal’.

We bought them iPads last year and after years of useless off-brand tablets they have ones that work!

Then we got them refurb iPhones and they are excited to use their phones instead of dreading another software/ hardware issue they have to schedule a tech consultation with their grand kids to resolve.

Still can’t get them to upgrade to Macintosh yet, even when they are shocked how slim, powerful and easy to use my 16” i9 MacBook is…

Is there a setting that says Enable HDR10+ like it says Enable Dolby Vision? Or do you just set it for 4K SDR and it will play HDR10+ when it's available over DV?
