Yeah, it’s going to need to do something more than have a camera and faster innards to get me to upgrade. A better remote would be a start. The current one is awful.Meh. Hopefully there is more to it than that.
If that is all there is to it, then it really does need a price cut.
I don't mind the current remote. It's not great but I wouldn't call it awful, although I agree it could be improved.Yeah, it’s going to need to do something more than have a camera and faster innards to get me to upgrade. A better remote would be a start. The current one is awful.
Seriously? I also hope the new Apple tv comes in blackA mute button would be nice
I’m not seeing what the great improvements were in the current version.I don't mind the current remote. It's not great but I wouldn't call it awful, although I agree it could be improved.
The one I would call awful is the prior design. That was a disaster.

The current version has a mute button.Seriously?
The trackpad is more visually and tactilely identifiable, whereas the old one it was more difficult to tell where the trackpad started and stopped. Also, the trackpad has directional buttons now. Finally, it's more intuitive to tell if it's upside down or not. Almost impossible to tell on the old one in a dark room, worsening the aforementioned trackpad issue.I’m not seeing what the great improvements were in the current version.

I think the current remote is a home run, but I didn't hate the old one either.
I haven’t really noticed what you’re talking about with skipping through content using the trackpad except it does take more swipes because the pad is smaller on the new one.Please...just allow us to pass through audio to an audio receiver. Just..please.
The end result of the new remote has made things worse, though, imo. Before with the trackpad, you only had one way to seek through a video, which was to use the trackpad. You could quickly get from beginning to end of a show/movie with a flick of the finger. It wasn't super precise, but I got used to it, and I appreciated how quickly you could get from end to end if an app didn't remember where I left off (happening more often when going device to device these days..).
Now with the new remote, they have buttons and the trackpad, which seems better..more options, but now I am finding that apps have made seeking with the trackpad an actively worse experience because they have buttons as an option. Now getting end to end is a miserable experience on apps like Amazon and even Netflix lately.
In the end, the app to app experience has trended worse since the remote change, IMO. In a vacuum, I like the new remote much more, but it's really muddled the experience unfortunately because implementation has been inconsistent and poor between apps.
Not really. It's slightly out of sight, so a camera wouldn't make sense for me. However, that could change if Apple allowed me to disable the blinking light every time I click a button on the remote. Then I would put it in sight, in which case a camera would be nice, as Continuity is very flakey for me.Does anyone keep their Apple TV in a location where having a camera would make sense?
And then some more in euros, please. The 64 GB model starts at a whopping 167 euros over here (Netherlands) and for the 128 GB version, I had to shell out a little more. It was absolutely worth it, no arguing there, but it's still waaaay overpriced. In the US it's not a bad deal. Could be a bit cheaper, but a better deal than over here at least.Keep it as is and drop the price $30 on both models, done.
Hmm App Mode with GoogleTV seems to be a simple interface to me.Disagree. The reasons to get an ATV over relying on smart TVs are well documented in this forum, although largely a matter of opinion. The ATV is the only interface I want to use for TV watching, I've tried the others.
Sounds like an issue either between the smart tv manufacturer and/or Apple regarding its AirPlay 2 implementation.Airplay can be a bit wonky and not all apps use it in my experience. In addition, it ties up your device while you use it vs an ATV which is more reliable and a seperate device.
Then there is the whole issue of multiple TVs - having Apple devices other than ATV to run them can get expensive, plus the ATV can be where young kids can't play/break it.
Given Apple's ecosystem model and subscription models it makes perfect sense to have an ATV that may well become a full fledged home hub.
Boring can be good? The Apple TV works, but it is a pretty boring product.
They have to include some browser interface to receive SIRI queries outside the existing limitations. They could make an additional app that could be a restrictive as far as its usefulness of that which could launch as needed to allow Siri to answer increased number of topics.I want SAFARI on it, please!
Based on this it sounds like the chip upgrade is just because it is economical for Apple to make more Apple TVs with newer chips. Theres no real performance strain on tvOS is there? Which questions what is the future of tvOS and Apple TV hardware?
I predict that what actually happens if this rumor is remotely close, is that they add a basic phone mount for FaceTime to one of the two versions. The bulit-in camera rumor still makes no sense to me.
I'd considered that, but it feels very "un-Apple". Also, if they're making a separate camera, why not just sell the camera as a standalone product? Nothing about this rumour makes sense to me.I suppose if they packaged it in such a way it could be clipped to the top rear of the TV set with the camera peeking over the top it could work.

I defiantly feel like one thing that Apple could do to increase Apple TV sales is lower the price a bit. Especially when you can get a Roku for $19.99 here in the States. And then some more in euros, please. The AppleTV is the one product Apple still makes that… just works.
(hopefully didn’t just jinx myself…)

You and I know that, I also use the Apple TV but the average user most most likely doesn't care and just wants to save money.True, but Roku is a data collection company masquerading as a video device. Lower prices would be nice but I'll pay the price to not to be feeding yet another company my info and getting ads as a bonus.

This. It's ridiculous that Apple Music is the only streaming service where you have to jump thru MacOS to get HiRes lossless (or go the expensive Sonos route).I hope Hi-Res Audio support
