The only thing you can pair with Bluetooth is audio devices and game controllers, by design. It isn't a problem pairing.
I didnt say it was a problem. I said I`m not able to do it. Which makes this device very isolated. I wanted to pair my old wireless apple keyboard and could not, why not ? I mean I know you can`t, by design, but question why design it that way ?

haha... i like the app switcher on tvOS....

Very original ... not, ios has the same interface...

I'm sorry, would you rather all Apple devices be completely different from one another just for the sake of being different?

I don't like that fact that you can't skip songs like you could on the old remote, Especially when playing radio. Everything else on the new remote is good. Also Siri can't do anything with music. iPhone remote app doesn't work with it either.

You can skip songs. Push down on the right edge to move to the next song, left to rewind or go to previous song.

They don't want people using it as a computer for your tv. They want you to use it as entertainment. This requires very little typing. I think they are trying to get their foot in the door before they expand its capabilities.

"Press the Home button twice quickly to bring up the App Switcher, which displays all apps open."

Oh, dear.

And so begins the myth that all apps shown in the AppleTV switcher are "running." The force-quit-all-apps voodoo madness from iOS continues!

Tip: Apple's app switchers are lists of RECENTS. Not lists of what is actually occupying any system resources at the moment. Force-quitting an app is a rare troubleshooting technique, not the "obsessively all the time" measure some people have started emotionally clinging to...

I picked mine up on Friday at launch, and I really like it. It certainly has a more complex layout that the earlier versions.

My main gripe is that I can constantly picking up the remote upside down. It's too symmetrical and the flat/gloss differentiation doesn't really tell the functionality apart.

Here is a link to the iBooks version of the user manual. There is also one in their support page.

Yeah - you have to get in the habit of setting it down oriented deliberately, so when you pick it up, it's always right. Of course if other people use it that won't work.

I'm on my third Apple TV this weekend already and its nothing but problems. According to AppleCare, there's an issue with the remote and Apple TV's having bluetooth issues and certain things aren't responding correctly. We tried doing factory resets, etc.

Also, the HDMI-CEC thing doesn't always work either with a certain number of TVs. I have both Samsung and Sharp.

Apple is going to push out an update in the next week or so to fix these issues hopefully as they all seem software based.

Very frustrating.

at least on the apple tv faulty apps destroying battery life will not occur...

I had to retype my password 3 times, before I got it right. On old Apple TVs we were able to use keyboard. I mean I understand it, they want people to use SIRI instead of typing, but not letting us pair there own keyboards just because, is pretty bad move I think. Seems like they going backwards...

Please make a tutorial of:

"How to type faster using the Siri remote with a horizontal line of alphabets"

:(
I think everyone needs to stop thinking of the touch area as a digital d-pad. The faster you swipe, the faster the cursor moves. If the letter you want is far away, quick swipe to it. If close, slow swipe or tap the extreme edge (gets you one space over). Also, the long press on a letter for capitals is a useful tip. As much as everyone likes to complain about change, the new layout is better for the new interface.

That said, lack of a compatible iOS remote app or keyboard support are completely valid complaints.

This is great! Learnt some really cool time saving features from this article!! Makes me love my new Apple TV that little bit more :) All it needs now is the Plex app and I’m all set

The Apple TV "Simple X" app is already available for $2.99 and works GREAT with my Plex server. I've been using Simple X all weekend and it works great with Plex movies and TV shows (does not do music and pics). I am not sure I need the Plex app now...

Weird thing happened to mine yesterday.
It showed a grid style search like the old Apple TV.
Then this morning it has reverted to the line again.
Maybe there is a way to toggle between the 2.
The line is such a waste of time!
I don't understand the complaints about the line. It's not ideal but it's much faster than the old grid. Once they update they remote app, that will be the ideal way.

Agreed. I wish the remote buttons glowed or lit up when touch pad is used.

All in all a decent update but then again it's been so long since ATV saw a decent update, I think they could've just done a refresh of the UI and people would've liked it.

The only thing I don't like is the fact that I can't get it to resume playing the last thing I was watching after I pause and launch a few different apps. Siri should always know the last movie or TV show I was watching to instantly cue it up whether is was just an hour ago or a month ago.

WHAT Siri? In whole europe NO siri!! Like a lot of feautures are NOT in Europe. It's a steal. 300% more expensive then the last model. NO 4K, NO siri. But you CAN buy game apps. Good for uncle Apple, who take 30% of all sales, without having to work for it. Waste of money.

I really hope the remote will get the previous/next buttons with the next tvOS update.

It has them now. You put your finger on the right or the left side of the trackpad and click. Right side is forward, and left is back. It's contextual, so in music it skips songs. In video media it skips 10 seconds either direction. Clicking and holding goes fast forward or fast back, depending on the side of the pad your finger is on. Clicking the pad once freezes the picture and lets you scrub. Clicking again starts the video again at the spot that you have scrubbed to. Visual queues of the function you're getting will come up on the screen when you put your finger on the pad.

It's really a quite ingenious design. Typical of Apple.

What they don't tell you about Siri is that you cannot search your home movies with it. Even if you label them all "movies," Siri will not find and play a movie you've added unless it's already on the screen. So if you have a huge collection of DVD's, you must scroll through them all in order to play any of them... or re-purchase your movies from Apple. I think I'll be returning mine and buying a Roku, thank you very much.

Or you could wait a week and install Plex, which will give you that functionality.

- The Siri Remote can power on/off or adjust the volume of your TV and speakers over HDMI-CEC. In some cases, this pairing process is automatic after setup, or configurable in Settings > Remotes and Devices under the "Turn On Your TV with Your Remote" and "Volume Control" menus.

The remote can also learn from other remotes. For volume control, I use my old AV receiver that doesn't have HDMI-CEC. The Apple TV remote now controls it through IR. I use my Harmony remote only to turn on/off the whole system.

Sorry if it's already brought up. I didn't have chance to read the whole thread.

I dont know guys, after using it for about 2 days, I`m thinking I`m going to return it... Nothing pairs with Bluetooth... Cant get any keyboards to pair, cant get my harmony remote to pair. The interface is pretty dated, its same as the old apple tv just a bit quicker... I love my apple stuff, but this seems like a waste at the moment.. Maybe it`ll get better, but I`m eather going to stick with my Fire TV or get Fire TV2.
Okee Dokee...
