New Apple TV to Come With Upgraded Siri Remote

This one I have with my current Apple TV HD (will replace whatever new one release). I have seen so many hate over that remote and praise for next generation remote. First time I ever seen anyone praise original remote and prefer it over newer generation.

I don’t see any issues or problems with original and works perfectly for me and I never used newer ones so can’t comment how it is.

I also came here to say I prefer the original Siri remote over the newer ones. The newer ones are too big for my hand to comfortably hold, and I prefer the swipe gestures on the first remote. I may even keep using this remote if I get a new Apple TV eventually to replace my HD (almost 11 years old and still going strong!).

I'd have to agree.
All I do with the voice functionality is dictation when keyboard entry pops up.

Far more useful to me is the control/interaction via my iPhone which allows 1Password to do passwords on the ATV.

That is magic and SO useful since I like to have very long & complicated passwords.

I still find that round ring around the middle button baffling. I expected it would work like an iPod and you move your finger around continuously in a circle to scrub forward and backward. Instead the top half scrubs forward, the bottom backward, so if you move in a circle the scrubber just slides back and forth. If you want to scrub forward a lot, you have to swipe, swipe, swipe against the entire touch area. It makes zero sense to me.

It is right now, it can do more with OS27. Light years better and I think we will see this seeping into more and more of Apple OS's

That's how bad Siri feels. Everyone knows there's a good idea here somewhere but the current implementation is so abominable that nobody wants to use it.

This mess is Tim's legacy - the initial rollout happened under Tim and the final version before he leaves after 15 years is not at all improved - I always wonder what Siri would have become had Steve survived.

What does Siri bring to Apple TV? Honest question, is it simply a navigation thing so you can say play a show and it does? Feels like that would be more clunky than quickly navigating to what you want to watch. Is there something more to Siri on the TV?

If anything I think they should expand continuity so your iPhone is the hub that brings it all together. "Siri play show X" my iPhone Siri hears and tells the Apple TV what to do Not individual remotes for everything. "Siri play Head and the Heart on my MacBook Pro" and away it goes even if I am in another room but have my iPhone.

I suspect we'll find that Siri AI has minimal benefits on the Apple TV itself and instead the A17 Pro will allow Siri AI voice requests to be made from HomePods on the network...

As we've all talked about it forever on here, the big issue with Tim is that he's simply not a product guy and thus didn't impart his sense of taste on products and ideas. Having someone with the juice to weigh in on what's good/bad/great/awful, start over on things, is so core to the Apple we all love.

The product editing, particularly at very early stages of internal concept / development, is what's so missing from Apple these days.

Then what is the point of Siri on the remote? Genuinely not sure what the gain is by having a voice assistant on Apple TV, and even less sure if you are saying you can use Siri on the iPhone to interact with the TV.

it's not a big thing, but iirc you can also use Apple Home on it. And it's good for text input.

Hopefully it’s a very minor change. I was looking forward to upgrading the last 2 TV units in my home and finally have all of the remotes matching again.

As long as no gestures are involved. We have a first gen ATV 4k and the remote is HORRENDOUS to use due to the top part for gestures. I want a remote with buttons on it, is that so hard to ask for?

Plus, I sure hope we can disable ai/Siri.

Family have had two current gen Siri remote power buttons pop off now.

I still use and prefer the OG's with trackpads in a case.

I think you can disable the swipes/gestures and make it function just on taps.

We gave up trying to use the apple remote a long time ago, have been using a Samsung remote all this time.

If it would always search in the app you are invoking it, it would be useful. But when I have to navigate to the Search in the app to actually use it, it becomes more annoying than anything else.

I don't see anything wrong with that idea. Different remotes for different Apple TV upgrades.

Box. I just want the box. The remote is mostly good. Could do a little better targeting. About a third of the time, I will click on, for example, the skip button to avoid the opening credits, and the click will be off target and just dismiss the button.

Real question: what is the point of buying the higher storage AppleTV and why should I care what processor it has? Is it for playing games?

We use it to stream from the usual suspects (netflix, hbo…) and i don't see how buying more storage or even upgrading at all is worth it. Since other people do care I assume I’m missing something.

(Upgrading to 4K was worth it when that happened…but even then I didn’t care about specs)
