Held my finger on the wheel and scrolled but couldn't get to work

1. HBO max - started scrolling a few minutes ahead then a few minutes back as I continuously scrolled in one direction. Did not stop when I stopped. Weirdest thing is I started another movie, then went back to the same movie. It was still scrolling up and down!

2. Netflix did work

3. Apple TV+ library movie - didn't work

For me the click sound means that it is a high quality remote.
There’s another thread here about this but HBO Max is currently pretty f’d up with FF and rewind features. They need to fix it ASAP.

HBO max did a major update on their app last week, and completely F***ed it up (capitol F on purpose) . They changed to their own player, and changed a bunch of stuff. and a lot of it doesn't work like it should

there are posts here, as well as articles around.

Didn't work for me either. Overall I hated the new remote. They put a damn mute button where the play button used to me, kept causing me to accidentally hit the mute. I returned it.

I love the new remote, but I hated the previous version, so I guess I shouldn't be surprised. First thing I did was turn off "touch" on the directional pad.

i'm going to break this remote. how did they make something more unusable and call it innovation. This one is very counter intuitive. keep pressing the useless mute instead of clicking on pause.

Lol. People actually use these remotes? Mine sit in a drawer. Get a harmony.

still after all updates nothing changed. very annoying.
It's terrible. With the old click wheel remote, I used to be able to scroll through the homepage and (most importantly for me) scroll though long lists of music. This doesn't do any of that, which is super-frustrating, since the hardware seems to allow for that.

Also, with the old click wheel remote, the scrolling functionality worked with every app and every part of the interface.

This is a fixable problem, Apple, but it's a big one.

remote works dandy for me. I don't use the inner pad to advance, I just toggle the arrow or hold it down guess my thumb doesn't need to develop biceps. I also had no problems with the old remote. 😀

just crazy such an innovative looking thing is a piece of crap. don't they try using it once or twice before releasing it to the customers?

Everyone here a few months back practically begged Apple for a 'new' remote. You got it. I kept asking what was wrong with the Siri remote and why did so many hate it (I still love it)...oh well. 🤷‍♂️

In fact, a lack of a 'mute' button was a major complaint. You know what my solution is? "OK Google, Mute the Living room TV". Works perfectly fine. (Thank you, Vizio)

ever tried youtube and then try scrubbing? let me know how it feels
works just dandy. I use my thumb to gently swipe right on the pad. just tried to see if YouTube had the circle to use with the wheel(outer ring) on the remote and it didn't. so I use my thumb or the right click wheel.

I never really cared to skip or rewind digital content. Something about how I'm used to the slower way a VCR does it has spoiled me. When I had a TiVO years ago I couldn't properly skip past commercials due to how skippy it was showing the skip animation. It was easy to overshoot where you wanted to stop skipping. It's like looking at a fast moving slideshow and you never know where you end up.

Since there are no commercials I don't even bother anymore. About all I need is a pause or play button and I'm set.

Now on YouTube there's these annoying folks using 'sponsors' or 'paid promotions' that are simply ads that are inside the video, not separate. It's hard to scrub those as well, as they are random length and there's no way to know where the start or end is. My solution was just using my laptop and installing YouTube SponsorBlock extension for Firefox.

I havent tested this on an Apple TV but for the first time in awhile I was forced to 'scrub' the Fire TV Stick's content. I was having some big issues with the Paramount+ app (it kept hard-freezing the stick!) so I opened the Apple TV app, then attempted to scrub to the point in the Air Disasters episode I got hard-frozen out of before, and not only is it still a stupid slideshow which is easy to overshoot the point you were looking for (seriously is it that hard to make it at least do like a VCR?) but not only did I overshoot, it got stuck in scrub mode! couldn't exit it. I had to pull the plug and restart it, and found out the skip back button at least didn't stick!

I'll concede one thing to Apple--that's hardware quality. Of course, that Fire Stick has a few years age on it compared to my ATV.

YouTube doesn't use the native tvOS video player. Apple could do something about this but they don't for...reasons. The tvOS Human Interface Guidelines state: "The built-in video player is designed to provide an exceptional video playback experience. Its controls are minimal and unobtrusive, keeping the media as the center of attention. Unless your app truly requires a custom video player, use the system video player to produce a consistent media viewing experience across the platform." However, because so many tvOS apps are just ported versions of apps made for other smart TV devices Apple worries that if they enforced the guideline requiring the usage of the tvOS video player (unless absolutely necessary), many companies just wouldn't even bother with an Apple TV app at all.

If Apple launched a cheaper Apple TV and gained marketshare in the smart TV market, they would probably be more comfortable enforcing this rule.

Still amazed of how cheaply built this new ATV remote is. Feels cheap, buttons are loud when pressing, which is annoying while trying to be silent at night and no backlight on it. Definitely does not have a premium feel like their previous remotes and usual Apple experience. For the profits they make on ATV’s, I expected much more.

still after all updates scrubbing doesn't work properly. ridiculous.

I like the new remote SR2 much better than the first generation Siri Remote (SR1). I bought one new Apple TV when it was launched, and ended up needing to buy 3 new remotes at $53 each to upgrade our other Apple TVs because we all liked the new SR2 so much better.

99% of the time, it is the only remote we use, as everything we do is streamed through an Apple TV. The only thing we ever use the TV or Soundbar remotes for is if we need to change some setting on the TV... which is essentially never.
