and no backlight on it.
Just FYI, no Apple TV remote ever made has been backlit. Ever. I'm sure battery drain has a lot to do with that (and earlier versions relied on non-removable coin cell batteries)

Even better, just program your Apple TV to work with the spectrum remote. It works fine and it's also backlit and runs on AA batteries which can be rechargeable.

the remote still sucks. weird ipod circle is there but without function. what a waste.
without function? It scrolls through menus, one tap left or right RW/FF 10 (or 15, can’t recall) seconds. Press and hold to the the left or right to RW/FF up to 4x speed

I disagree. It is brilliant how you touch/hold till it turns into a circle on the screen, then you can turn it to do fine scrubbing through the video, with pinpoint accuracy.

There are still a few apps that don’t support that feature, but it is only a matter of time before they do.

One thing that drives me nuts on this remote.

I had an "old" 4K ATV hooked up in my main system, with a harmony remote.
Bought the "new" 4K ATV, and paired the "new" siri remote with the "old" ATV. The new one gets the harmony.

This works just fine, until tvOS gets updated. On update, the new remote re-pairs with the new ATV. WTF????

That's why I gave up on Apple TV. No control over updates, they even circumvented my router blocks. I'm on a Fire TV Stick from 2016, it never gets updates, and that means my peace of mind remains intact.

I simply do not believe in updates. Now I go farther, no belief in upgrades. I'm using a Galaxy SII as my main phone. This laptop I'm typing this on is a Toshiba Satellite from 2012. Seems 2010-15 had far better tech, and better variety. More control and the OS didn't treat the user as if they were an idiot.

I’m starting to hate the new one too , every time I pick it up it sets Siri off , why didn’t they put the button on the front opposite the power button ?

Plus siri is seriously useless , still can’t find anything , I end up using the app on the iPhone or iPad to stop me throwing it across the room

I do not understand why you have an Apple tv if you actually do because you say things that are just not true and like posts that are just not true like the circle has no function which it does.

I think that SIRI has been nearly flawless in helping me search for shows or movies I want to watch. Additionally, I don't think I've ever activated the Siri button by mistake.

I stopped using any type of voice control to play stuff. Google Assistant, Alexa, etc.

Example:

"Hey Google/Siri/etc play Star Trek The Next Generation on Netflix" (expecting it to continue from Season 4 where I left off)

OKAY!

Starts Season ONE, episode ONE.

Happens each time. It's like they expect you to watch it all in one go or something.

Once you are watching a series, just go to the app and it is listed in your "continue watching" (or whatever each app calls it) section. Voice is great when you want to watch some random movie, and you have no idea which app it might be playing on. Apple TV does a pretty good job of finding it for you across your apps.

For example, I just went into Apple TV and randomly voice searched for Animal House, 2001 A Space Odyssey, and Nomadland, and they showed up in Peacock, HBO Max, and Hulu respectively.

Oh that's exactly what I do. I use the remote to just click on what's up next. I just don't really want to use voice since starting a series that's not listed in the watch next or is so far off to the right (haven't watched it in awhile) always starts from the first episode of the first season.

It can however come in handy for pausing, resuming, turning the TV on/off. When watching live TV, without a mute button on the remote, I just said 'Ok Google, Mute the living room TV' and it did just that. The Star Trek nerd in me wishes I could say 'Computer, delete audio' but even though Alexa can work with the wake word, 'delete audio' isn't an accepted command.
