Well, it can be worth it if you like using mobile hotspot.

Sprint charges $30/mo for 5 GB of data on tethered devices. That's their only option for tethering, too.

Obviously you can JB and use an App to do it, but you run the risk of them cancelling your account.

For AT&T, it's only a few bucks more than what you're paying for the new 3 GB plan. Worth it imo.

Verizon has an unlimited 4g mobile hotspot for 30$ extra right now. The Iphone doesnt work on it though. But a shinny new android device will ;)

I called AT&T yesterday in regards to throttling. Only reason I called is because I'm being throttled at 2gb and my sister has used over 5gbs and she's in the same market...no throttling though. Their explanation....shes lucky....these reps should get better training to be able to give better answers...lol

Someone's posted that they've gone to an AT&T store and they were able to somehow reset it. I don't know if they forced a usage reset or whatever they did, but the individual involved said they got their regular HSPA+ speeds immediately after leaving the store.

You can keep calling customer service until you get someone that will help you. I do that all the time, especially when they outsource me into other countries... they understand my words, but they certainly don't understand my meaning. "Are you happy many now?" "Not really. Transfer me to cancellations."

Cancellation department seems like it's located in the US 99% of the time. They also seem to have a lot more leeway with credit-issuing and other perks like that.

Thanks for the suggestion but I'm not gonna go thru all of that. Only solution is to limit my data usage. At least this seems to be the only true 100% way to avoid throttling. Looking at my usage the last year I have never gone past 4gb and I used to tether with my iPhone 4. I get a fan discount so I might switch to the 5gb plan that includes tethering.

From what I've read so far, no-one is really sure what the official policy of AT&T is, including their own reps. That sounds pretty bad because you basically have to leave it to chance. I don't plan on changing my unlimited data plan anytime soon, but I'd like to know as much fact as possible...

I totally agree with you! Before I switch I would also like a real answer from att!!

Currently on unlimited, yet to be throttled. Once I get throttled (consistently) I will either consider the 3GB plan, or more than likely just get the Verizon plan with my fiance's company. They will require me to buy any device I use outright, but it's a $25 a month all you can eat plan. I hate their data speeds, but it's better than Sprint so... decisions, decisions.
