What plan does everyone have? Even with military discount I'm being charged 180 for 10 gb of data and 3 lines ;/

I have Unlimited data on Verizon and 5 lines and I'm paying about $195 --- but no phone has a payment plan. $83 for data, $20 per line, fees and what not make up the rest. I have the military discount as well. I was grandfathered into the "720p" unlimited plan by Verizon recently.

Verizon's network isn't getting any better thanks to this unlimited stuff - speeds have slowed down very noticeably. That said, it still beats every other carrier in coverage where I live (2 hours north of LA in the desert).

It's already happening. It doesn't happen overnight but both AT&T and Verizon have been bleeding customers to T-Mobiles uncarrier deals.
They have been very successful in changing the US wireless industry for the better and finally bringing healthy competition and better prices and plans for consumers.
Instead of the same old 2 monopolies we had before offering less for more and constantly coming up with new ways to nickel and dime people.
T-Mobile is a breath of fresh air that was much needed.

The T-Mobile CEO made a speech and said they will overtake all the other carriers. Their pricing is good, the pay isn't as good (but he promised better wages later on), . And has speeds that match or are better than AT&T/Verizon. It's only a matter of time.

Agreed. I was a long time T-Mobile customer back when Catherine Zeta Jones was their spokesperson / commercial actress. I moved to Verizon in 2009. That said, I'm tempted ... even though I'd only save $35/mo. My sister has T-Mobile right now and she loves to show off the free stuff (pizzas, etc...) she gets every Tuesday? Since 99.9% of what I do is on WiFi anyway..... the temptation is there :).

I too look on T-Mobile with a very favorable opinion.

There are a bunch of problems with the current pricing since it relies on free HBO and 25 off DTV to offset unusually high mobile plans. ATT has the highest ARPU and it's far above what europeans pay for the same service. Also I suspect the DOJ will stop the practice of giving away HBO (free dragons) to their subscribers. So we may see overall cheaper plans and less of a reliance on DTV and HBO.

The other change I'd expect to see is moving up from 3mbs on the the cheaper unlimited plan up to at least 6 or so.

6GB of Data a month is nothing.
AT&T hopes you'll go over it and pay them overages.
That's how they make most of their billions, in overage fees.

Depends. It's more than enough for me on a phone. I barely use 3GB. Even on my iPad I have a hard time burning 5GB and I watch much more video on that. Truth is the CellCos make there money selling people "unlimited" packages of 22GB data they don't really need. Overage fees are really a thing of the past. It's all about throttling speed now.

I'd rather have a 5GB package with no throttling than an unlimited package with "traffic restrictions."

6GB is more than adequate for a lot of people. Not everyone wants to stream video for long on a smart phone when they’re away from their WiFi. I have 5GB on Verizon and do everything I need and have rollover at the end of the month. I don’t use strange WiFi so all of my usage is cellular when away from home. Just depends on ones needs. I do my streaming at home on a larger screen.

I was one of those. I wanted to like TMob but with in a month I found out it's not only the "uncarrier," it's also "unreliable," and "unusable." Funny, not so funny TMob story. Last April I had great club seats for a Braves game. The tickets were electronic on my phone via the BallPark app. I get up to the club level and bam! no service. No service, no ticket. Ah technology. So I had to go all the way back down stairs to get service, get my ticket on my phone again. This time I made a screen shot hoping that would sub for the true digital ticket. Fortunately they didn't want to scan it, just look at it to make sure I had club seats.

I still have TMob and experience that kind of stuff all the time, esp in subways, back of stores, tall buildings. Will be rid of it by the time it get my new phone. TMob has a long way to go. Hats off to them, but not for me.

$100 AT&T Mobile Share 20GB w/rollover (10GB double data promo)
$ 60 smartphone - 4 lines @ $15ea
$ 10 iPad
$170 Total (FAN discount cancels out the taxes)

I'm on the $100 Mobile Share 20GB (doubled from 10GB) with rollover, with a 25% FAN discount.

2 phones at $15 each.

So it's $105 before tax/fees, so each month I'm at $118.50 or so.

We struggle to use 6GB between the two of us, but dropping down to one of the current plans saves me no money. Besides, we're about to add my oldest daughter to the plan and our plan is $15/phone, not the current $20/phone. So eventually, we'll be able to use closer to the 20GB. And kids 2 and 3 aren't far behind.

Been pretty happy since ATT rolled out the new $20 per line plans. New home in the boonies requires us to use a mobile hotspot for internet. We get our money's worth...

I have an unlimited with 32GB's and after that you could get throttled during peak times on busy towers.
5GB might work for you but in general for today's standards it's very low for a full 1 months of use.

[doublepost=1504662429][/doublepost]So that one time with a very overcrowded tower due to a baseball game with thousands of users slamming those nearby towers for 2-3 hours means what?
So many times people mention sporting events or places that draw huge crowds at a certain time and makes me think they don't get how cell cites work and that requests and servicing wireless users is not unlimited per local tower.
For me and my family it works great.
No carrier is perfect everywhere at every time;)
Use whatever works for for you.
Find what works best in places you frequent the most and go for it. Individual results will vary.
Competition is great for the consumer though. ;)

People need to be aware of how much data they actually use. Unlimited Plans sure sound good, but if you're only using 2-3GB (which is what the average American customer is using), then its a waste of money.

The "old" business model when carrier took "Unlimited" data away the first time around, was to catch people in overage charges for using too much data. The "new" model is that every major carrier sells ONLY expensive "Unlimited" plans, meaning that the majority of customers are paying more than necessary for things they don't need.

If you want to save real money, look at all of the MVNOs floating around.

No, if you read my whole post TMob service fails are not a one-time thing with me. They are a daily occurrence. That story is just a punctuation mark because no one else I was with at the game had TMob and there service was perfect at the same place mine failed. The funny thing is TMob is an MLB sponsor. At Nats Park they have two big ads over the bullpen. Irony.

So to summarize, my experience with TMob in the DC area, eastern WVA/western VA, ATL, FL Panhandle -- TMob is spotty to non-existent. I'm not sorry for leaving ATT and giving TMob a try but it's been a failed experiment. Now I have to face reality, swallow hard and either go back to ATT or try VZW. Maybe TMob will be good when 5G rolls out but it's 4G/LTE network is only for viable for people that live near a highway and don't wander much.

No, there is no "standard." You are looking at it from your own use. But the world doesn't revolve around you. Everyone has their own needs. I don't need more than 5GB -- I don't even need 5GB for email and light web use. I don't watch video other than maybe short clips. Plenty of people only use their phone for that kind of use. Lots of people have jobs and their phone is a tool not a toy.

Agreed. I'm on wifi most of the time so I average 3.9GB/ month. People love to brag about how many GB they use in a month and all that tells me is that they are one of those people who are too attached to their phones and live through their phones and have no lives.

The wife and I share 2GB/mo. We have occasionally gone over, but for how common wifi is where we live/work, it’s generally enough and we often have rollover.

Having two big ads over the bullpen has nothing to do with overcrowded wireless cellsites, the billboard doesn't provide wireless service. Obviously you still dont get how celltowers work.
But hey whatever works.
If my service wasnt acceptable with them I wouldn't stay either.
In today's age I think 5GB is low, that wouldn't last me personally not even a week but I know not everyone has the same needs.
I use streaming radio daily and also my phone's personal hotspot for other devices and tablets to connect and stream video so I can go through many GB's of data quick.
You're not the only one with a job and that their device is not considered as a toy either. I know right, whoever uses lots of data according to you just has nothing to do with no life and no job and plays with their phone as a toy all day:D lol

I have 3 lines on my AT&T plan and we average 4GB. We simply connect to WiFi.

Most of my data is used streaming music in my car.

Reeeeeallly! I didn't relize that. Geee wilkers! Thanks fer xplainen me to that. I though fer shure those waz majik sihgns, yu knows with teknolgy in all.

Did you miss the part where I wrote "irony" or did you intentionally ignore it to fit your point?

But hey let me explain why it's ironic - TMob is boldly advertising how great its service is in the ballpark and yet in reality it's non-existent even as other people with other network providers have no problems at all. It's NOT overcrowded cell sites as you'd like to believe, it's just poor general service. ATT and VZW users do not have the same issues at least in Nats Park or Suntrust, the two I go to most often. So stop pretending TMob isn't a fail for people that travel outside their neighborhood where it might actually work. It is.

True, lots of ironic advertisements out there, I was just explaining the celltower and overcrowded locations effects.
If you go there when there is no game without thousands of users hammering the same tower you wont have that problem. Its the same with every big sporting event or concerts etc. Everyone wants to livestream on facebook live and post pictures and videos or use their smarphones while sitting there. That's nothing new. Every provider will have similar results in overcrowded areas no matter what you claim.
If Tmobile was a fail as you claim then they wouldn't be the fastest growing US wireless provider and adding subscribers faster than all others and with the fastest data speeds.
But overgeneralize all you want. Yes, they are garbage that's why they have over 73 million subscribers and they all stay with them with terrible service right? More nonsense...

You are amazing. How can you assume I don't go to games regularly? Or that the games I have been to were sell outs or empty? I never mentioned crowd size -- you just assumed it. But I did mention I was with people on other networks but you keep ignoring that fact. Why?

But for the record I've had season tix for the Nats for about ten years so I've got a good history of being in the park during sell outs and freeze outs. I experienced the "old days" when, yes, no cell service no matter who the provider was due to a crowd. But that isn't the case anymore. Both MLB and NFL stadiums have made serious efforts in the past few years to install relays inside the stadium. Cell service has vastly improved since then, well, apparently except for TMob. Maybe Sprint too but I don't know anyone on Sprint.

Aren't you the one overgeneralizing? Pretty much all Chupa Chupa said was for his location, T-Mobile is unreliable and AT&T and Verizon have better coverage.

T-Mobile service may work great for you but that's not going to be the case for everyone. As with housing, cell service is pretty much location, location, location. No single carrier is going to be bulletproof but some carriers have less holes in their coverage than others depending on location.
