AT&T insurance with a $199 deductible is $6.99 per month per phone. Something else to consider in costs.

That sounds like a poor deal vs AppleCare+. Just an opinion.

AT&T is smarter than u think.

Mobile share has only been around since summer of 2012.

Don't you think the timing of letting people switch over to the 10gb is an accident? Most on mobile share are or will be eligible for full subsidy upgrades within the next 4-7 months.

The math has been shown multiple times in this thread that if you are already on a 10 GB mobile share plan, at worst the new plans are the same cost vs old subsidy model, assuming you buy the phone up front. At best you save some meager amount of money and don't have to worry about contracts, ETFs, international SIM use, and other BS fine print.

People with unlimited data should hold off...everyone else, if they are saving $$$ and will NEVER use more than their data bucket...should consider moving to these new plans..

True but that also depends on if you only keep the phone 1 year vs 2.

The only advantage to ATT is that they also cover the phone being lost or stolen.

I currently have ATT insurance and AppleCare + on current devices

I knew I shouldn't have jumped the gun so early on this. Should have waited for all the great analysis to shake out.

It isn't nearly as clear cut as some make it out to be.

The best advice is to make a calculation based on one's own usage characteristics, time remaining on contract, and upgrade preferences.

Some will benefit, some will not. This *certainly* isn't good for everyone.

Jailbreak your iPhone to tether. In my case I will not switch...it costs the same but at least I get to keep my unlimited data on 2 lines.

Yeah, already Jailbroken, but like others have said, it is still somewhat restricting. Tethering to an iPad is fine, but the second I connected to a laptop I got the dreaded "AT&T tethering text."

I'm more curious (since we roughly have the same plan), if AT&T says that we can no longer grandfather our plan if we want subsidized pricing (around iPhone 6)...would you be pissed you didn't jump on Mobile Share sooner?

But most people weren't on 10GB plans. They were on 4GB and 6 GB data plans.

Thats the crux of this.

Why doesn't ATT offer 4GB at $60. Than $15/per smartphone. So $90 for 2 lines to share 4GB unlimited talk/text.

After all isn't it (or was) $10/GB extra each month.

Look at ATT website closely. Look for 4GB data mobile share. Look at how much its to add a line. It's $40/line to add (subsidized model). And ATT will only give you $15 off each month if you buy full price. So 2 lines 4GB data share will cost you $70 plus $25 x 2 (assuming you pay full price or go NEXT). That's $120/month for 2 lines no contract and sharing 4GB of data.

Can somebody answer this for me, if we get the 2GB mobile value data plan and we go over it how much are we charged? Do they not charge us and just throttle the speed down after 2GB?

I have 4 iPhones. Under the old data plans, I was paying $240 a month ($120 for 10GB + $120 for 4 lines @ $30 a piece).

Under the new plans by subsidizing all lines, I would pay $260 a month ($100 for 10GB + $160 for 4 lines @ $40 a piece).

The difference, is AT&T has finally changed the per line amount based upon whether you own the phone or not.

NEXT was a terrible deal before they restructured their pricing per line. It made no sense to pay the same per line amount if you owned your phone or enrolled in NEXT versus someone who subsidized.

Now that AT&T offers a $15 per line if you enroll in NEXT, this option is not all that terrible. Plus, you have so many more options in terms of paying off early, etc.

You would be charged $15.00 per additional Gigabyte overage automatically.

"Additional data: $20/300MB on the 300MB plan and $15/1GB on all other plans.
Data: Automatically charged $15/GB for data overage."

So it wouldn't matter how much we went over it's automatically $15? yikes

Not true.

Well, not knowing your situation that may be true, but the naysayers in this thread base their opinions on assumptions. I moved three phones (two from unlimited plans) and no FUD is going to convince me that saving $420 a year is not in my best interest. It's simple math and all you need to do is look at the options and select the one that's right for you.

So it wouldn't matter how much we went over it's automatically $15? yikes

Correct.

Watch your bill.

Anyone whose billing cycle starts on the 2nd and changed to this plan on the 2nd (first day it was available), log into your account and check the balance due. I just spent 45 minutes arguing on a live chat. My balance due showed $185 for the $130 plan. Somehow the system set the plan active date as 2/1 (the last day of my billing cycle) instead of 2/2 (the day I added it and the first day of the new cycle).

My old family plan/bill was always $154 after tax, etc. The guy was trying to tell me that I owed $185 because that was my old 10GB Mobile Share plan price through 2/1. I didn't have Mobile Share at all until 2/2. He then wanted to credit me $50 next month after I paid $185 for a plan I didn't even have. Eventually he finally gave me the credit now, and I'm sure I'll go through this again next month since my "current plan" shows the $130 plan, but under "change services" it shows each line access fee as $40 instead of $15. He assured me this would automatically be fixed on the next cycle. We'll see.

VERY long story short, if your bill is wrong it will take them a long time to straighten it out for you.

AT&T sends you an SMS at 65%, 75%, 90% and 95% of data usage. So going over isn't a big surprise. You get plenty of notice before you go over. But yes, $15 for an addition 1GB if you go over.

I can confirm this. Annoying!

I had this same issue yesterday as I just got my new bill. After an hour they finally credited and first try saying I signed up before the plan was available.

Hopefully not the same next month.

That's exactly what they told me, that I changed it before 2/2. It wasn't even available until 2/2! I told the guy, why would I give up unlimited data for a more expensive plan that didn't even exist? It took me 45 minutes-an hour but they finally credited me.

PART IN BOLD IS WRONG....

As indicated here by many people that have switched already, the cost is $15 per line. This applies to phone still under contract as of Feb 2nd. I moved over 3 contract phones, and they are NOT on NEXT.

why do people keep quoting the $40 per line thing.

I think he was referring to if he went and bought new subsidized phones after the switch it would be $40/line. But yes, you are correct. If you are still under contract before this plan and switched, it's $15/line unless you go and buy another subsidized phone after switching.

You are correct, your phones that are still under contract are $15 per line. The decision will come when it is time to buy a new phone. If you want to buy a subsidized phone with a two year contract again, you will go back to paying $40 a line. The $15 per line option will only be available if you purchase thru NEXT or bring your own phone.

This is confusing, please help me understand this change.

I now pay $230 for 4 line @ 6g (old plan). All 4 line is on contract till Sept 2015. I was thinking that if i change to 10g new plan i would have to pay $100 and $40 per line that's $260.
