They are all going to get away from Contracts very shortly. Think about why would they want to pay large subs when they can make us pay full price for the phones. T-Mobile did it with some success, and AT&T just switched to a similar model. Verizon will have no choice and well Sprint? who knows what they will do, only reason ppl go to Sprint is unlimited data, but when their network is so crippled why bother.

Personally they will all pay a price and so will Apple, if people have to pay $650 or more for a phone the majority will keep their device longer, I plan on keeping my iPhone 5 for a long time, this will all hurt their bottom lines, as I believe they will sell less and less each year. Eventually something will give but I do not think Apple will lower their prices I think they might start their own Wireless network if you ask me makes sense.

Wow, someone is clueless.

Indeed. Completely clueless. AT&T can change the terms any time they want to. If someone doesn't like the changes they can leave and even avoid ETF on any contract lines if they follow the right process.

I have not had very many phones in my life as I am not a phone junkie (tech junkie yes). I keep my phones for 3 to 4 years. The iPhone 5s is the first phone I bought outright and when the iPhone 6 comes out, I will evaluate if there is enough incremental value to purchase it.

Hey, quit with the logical decision making already. This is MacRumors, you're supposed to salivate at the thought of a new iphone and blindly go line up to buy it.

Seriously -- you're right. The smartphone market has matured and improvements tend to be evolutionary not revolutionary. For most people, upgrading every other or every third generation makes the most sense. Half the reason I upgraded from my old 4S to the 5S (and upgraded my wife's 4 to a 5S) was that I hated paying a subsidy to AT&T and getting nothing in return. With the new plans breaking the subsidy out, I don't anticipate much reason to upgrade again until 2015 or 2016. I'm auto-transferring a phone payment to savings every month so I'll be able to buy the next phone outright.

Yeah, they didn't credit me $25 per line as advertised...they charged me $40 per line. They also charged me some pro-rated charges even though I switched on my bill cycle start date. Finally, I told the rep that taxes were applied to $40 per line as opposed to $15 per line. She talked to her "manager" and ended up crediting me $130 to make it right.

They said their systems weren't prepared yet to give the credits. I was not happy about that statement. I politely explained how that is not the consumers fault, and AT&T should really get their crap together BEFORE launching new rate plans.

I had similar billing issues with my plan. My idea to just make it clean and start the new 10GB Share plan with the next billing cycle seemed to have caused a lot of problems. After an hour on the phone first talking to a rep and then a manager, things were finally resolved.

Same this happened to me. Got billed $40 per line instead of $15. Never fails, always frustrating.

Please let us know if they fixed it by calling them. I wanted jump from Verizon but may be better wait and see a system will be fixed.

I was able to get the appropriate credits to my account with a chat agent. I will need to wait to make sure my next bill is correct.

My bill was slightly confusing, but the numbers made sense. I had a prorated charge and credit for each line that would have been $40 and $25 respectively if it were for a whole billing cycle.

I have to say, my transition was probably a little more confusing than some. I switched from my Nation 450 plan by myself to a shared plan with my wife, who transferred her number from Verizon. Then a few days later I had AT&T transfer billing responsibility of my families plan with 3 lines to me. I'm not going to say that I wasn't concerned that AT&T would manage to screw something up, but everything went well.

Btw alphaod, how many lines do you have on your plan?

3 iPhones, 3 iPads, 1 MiFi in my MobileShare.

I also have another line that's on its own individual line due to my unlimited int'l data plan.

It's hard to pinpoint my total because I use roaming voice, so my bill changes every month.

I just looked at my bill more closely and I think they gave me a discount on my unlimited data plan as well.

People keep talking about t-mobiles prices like that's all that matters. There coverage sucks!!!. There is a reason they're the cheapest. I'll gladly pay a little extra for reliable coverage. I had t-mobile in north Houston and couldn't get my phone to work in my house most of the time. Also, hope you like slow internet because outside of the big cities, you'll be getting much slower internet and much poorer cell coverage.
