To be fair, I'd argue this promotion is probably the best they've done.

It's back to school after all and gone are the days where an iTunes voucher was for Music only - you'll be able to buy the apps you were gonna buy anyway out of that $100 so it will save you money.

Yeah blame the kids because they were brought up by jerk off mo-rons - Western culture perpetuates the notion of entitlement its not just the kids who think they're entitled, every jerkoff with a cashew between their legs and a monster truck in the driveway also thinks this way.

Its the devolution of our species - it aint survival of the fittest anymore its survival of the greediest......

If you don't like it why don't you go live up a tree with your cousins.... ooo ooo ooo.......

Some of you kids are greedy and ungrateful little bastards. Do you also complain on forums when your parents didn't buy you the exact gift you wanted? I love the culture of entitlement that has been instilled in our youth.

I love how some people think that age makes you "smarter" than others. Sorry but your incorrect. Your statement is filled with so much ignorance that it's pathetic. He wants to buy a 9 series. I respect his decision. I don't understand why him buying a 9 series makes him an ungrateful little bastard. Normally, a human being will go towards a better deal. Why blame him? He weighed his Pros/Cons and it seems that the 9 Series won after the new B2S promotion. I almost bought that laptop as well if it wasn't for Microcenter's sales.

Also you just contradicted yourself with your latest post. Think before making dumbass posts.

@PackMan
The 9 Series is actually the superior laptop in terms of specs as of now.

My latest post was clearly sarcasm. I am sorry that you find that difficult to understand.

Whilst I specifically replied to a single post with my initial statement, it was, in fact, aimed at all the whiny posters. It had nothing to do with his choice of Samsung. Nor did I make any statement about which machine is superior or inferior. Again, I am sorry that you could not follow a simple statement and made some incredibly asinine assumptions to fill in the blanks of your comprehension.

It's pretty simple, I think. It's very generous of a company to offer discounts and extras as well to kids. For people to complain that they can't make $150 by selling the gift says a lot about them.

Incredible. Seems like I forgot to add "unable to accept responsibility and blame society for their short-comings" into my first post. Thanks for the correction.*

we're not bitching. We're just disappointed in apple's greedy choice. But thats ok. This decided it for me. Im getting the Samsung series 9 over the current Macbook Air 13". Cheaper + Free Xbox 360.

Greedy choice?? You're talking as if Apple owns you something. Well, they don't. Constant whining and feeling of entitlement will not get you far in life, that I can guarantee you.

Finally something! I just returned my 15" MBP today (last day of the 14-day return policy). I was waiting for this promotion.

I think i'll spend it all on itunes.

why dont u just phone them? think they will still offer you free itunes gift card.

Ok have fun with your Xbox.

So your against xbox too? im guessing b.c apple doesn't make it? Ill sell the xbox. Get $200 back for it. Not a bad deal.

Some of you kids are greedy and ungrateful little bastards. Do you also complain on forums when your parents didn't buy you the exact gift you wanted? I love the culture of entitlement that has been instilled in our youth.

First of all im not a kid. Actually in grad school idiot with my own business. It's not a sense of entitlement. It's is a promotion that has been running for years. They changed it so they can give you a useless "gift" that makes you spend it right back with them.

I don't buy music on itunes, barely spend more than $10-15 on apps, and i don't buy software from apple since they are a ripoff anyway. I buy all my software for my company from other vendors that are much much cheaper than apple.

Before you still had to buy the iPod and wait for a rebate check, for $199, the $100 gift card is up front, and you can use on ITMS & MAS, why not fill up your mac with media and software.

If you ask me this is a pretty good deal, along with your discounted Mac:rolleyes:

Apple always paid the rebate back within the first 3-4 weeks. By the time my credit card bill came in i already recieved the rebate $$. Like i said, not everyone uses itunes, Mac app store is a joke, and apps are not that expensive. And how many college kids actually use itunes? most kids i knew in undergrad torrented.

their greedy choice to not only give you a discount, but give you a $100 gift card on top. yeah, that really sucks...

Compared to previous years? yes it is a greedy choice.

Hopefully the XBox will help distract you from the inferior computer you bought... ;)

Lol your funny. You actually think the current MBA is better than the samsung series 9  God i love you fanboys. spec for spec the samsung wins hands down.

BTW im not against apple or mac, i have my mbp + multimonitor display, ipad, and iphone. So i am far from an apple hater. Im just saying it's a better deal to get the samsung series 9 for people who are looking at the MBA 13.

^^^That's a lot of time spent on a useless post.

And your talking to me like im a child because? not everyone who is qualified for this promotion is a high school or college student. I never said they owed me something btw. I said i was disappointed by their greedy decision and have decided to go with a better deal from a competitor. What is so wrong with that?

Btw how is it not a greedy decision? Previous B2S sales were valued between $150-$200. Now the value is $100. Hmm seems like Apple is lowering their "gifts" when they are at their strongest. It's not like sales are down and they have to make up for revenue in some other way.

btw how do you know i have not gone "far in my life"? Is that how you counter people who don't agree with your view? you try to belittle them? How do you know im not "farther" than you in life?. Regardless, your sense of attitude won't get you far in life either, that i can guarantee you. :D

So why were you even considering a Mac? Because you wanted an iPod so bad?

Either you wanted a Mac - or you didn't... So, in essence, you are 'settling' on another computer because you didn't get the BTS deal you wanted...

This could be argued both ways... It's not like sales are down, they have to give promotions to sale their items.

I prefer this as I stated before and some won't. You can't please everyone. Having owned your own business as you said, you should see how this is a great marketing plan this is for apple's app store. They make great computers that I find pleasure in using, they don't owe me anything. I have the decisions to buy or not to buy.

Just relax and enjoy the $100 card, if you don't like it. I will buy it from you for 90 bucks =)! I am planning on buying Final Cut Pro X

I guess im in a different situation since i have another macbook pro and i was looking to add a macbook air for my traveling needs. Since it will be my 3rd computer (1st. Gaming PC rig, 2nd. MBP 13" + multimonitor setup at work) i guess im only looking at the best price/deal.

However, i disagree that this is such a great marketing plan. I understand that this plan will make people just spend money at apple. However, free ipods is way better marketing. It will appeal to way more people and now those people will also use itunes, app store; etc. Not everyone will sell the ipod like us here on macrumors

I am perfectly fine with your XBox statement. I agree with you that it's a good deal. I am also fine with you owning a PC (if that's what you're getting at). I'm fine with people having opinions. I am always open to a respectful argument. Slamming someone or something simply because of failed expectations is what I am not fine with.

This is a precise example of entitlement. Do you think there's a rule set in stone which says that Apple must initiate B2S sale of certain value? The B2S sale is nothing more than promotion to help Apple sell more products. Other companies knock down prices, but Apple doesn't like to devalue their products so they offer a "gift" instead. If Apple could launch a successful promotion with $5 gift card, they would do it.
Yes, as it stands now, the XBox deal is much better; but do you expect Microsoft to do an exact same deal (or a deal of the same value) next year? It would certainly be nice, but I wouldn't bank on it. Neither should you.

I apologize if I caused you pain and discomfort by talking to you like a child, but your initial statement reminded me of a little kid who complains that he has "the worst birthday EVER" simply because he only got 36 presents whereas last year he had gotten 37 presents.

I think you are assuming that the people who receive the "free" (I still had to pay California Tax) ipods will use them. I know a great amount of people who would just sale them on craigslist, in the end, this would result in apple losing iPod sales at market price. I don't have statistics exactly on how many ipods are sold on ebay/craigslist at the time of these past promotions. I mean it could actually be a very small dent or a surprisingly large figure.

I still believe this was a better marketing to get the app store more main stream. I could be wrong, but it is how I view it right now.

Who still uses itunes :D

I don't and never will. Its bloatware. It's name is also misleading as it should be called iMedia. I also have no intention of ever owning an iOS device as there have always been better alternative (Cowon J3 > Any iPod, HTC Android > iPhone 4, any Android 3.0 > iPad, though tablets are useless toys anyway).

I have no use for the gift card because: I dont itunes or its music store, all the software I need I already have, and will never buy a single iOS app because I hate the iOS platform (much prefer Android and HTC Sense UI).

That said, I am a student in Web Development. I just started classes 3 weeks ago. I've held out buying a macbook pro and selling my old mac for over a month expecting last years sale. This was a massive disappointment. I was hoping to either use the iPod touch as a storage device OR to straight up sell it for more than 70-80 bucks I can get for the ultimately useless gift card.

A lot of people who were expecting the iPods just got slapped in the face with apple's tightassness.

You realize the key word in the above-quoted sentence? It's "expecting."

And as others have written, it's good marketing--Apple wants to drive traffic to their App Store and this seems a good way to do it. Plus, it saves the hassles of another rebate program.

Finally, "tightassness" is one of the reasons Apple has been so successful. It's a company not afraid to invest, but it is also one that is very analytical about how it markets and sells products.

It is also a little "tightassness" on his part in complaining about "losing" 60 dollars on a promotion item....

seems liek u just dont like apple. btw if you hate itunes so much show me a better media manager than itunes. Zunes software sucks balls and so do most other third party software.

there has never been a better alternative btw. maybe in your opinion but id say the market has spoken and iOS devices has won by a long shot.

Free itunes $100 giftcard (NOW) VS Free ipod touch (OLD)

It's a promotion. Which means you are actually getting something extra. Be it an iPod Touch, obviously better, or a $100 giftcard, it's more than what you would have got a month ago. Be happy you get this promotion with your hardware, because they have no obligation to do so and for all we know it could just disappear next year.

i think its just a better deal to go with a refurb now that the B2S promo is out. You more than $100 off on refurbs.

I would rather have the $100 gift card. Much more useful for a student than an iPod touch. There are a lot of great college applications now on the App store (ex. iStudiezPro).

I got nothing when I bought my MacBook Pro like a month ago and I'm not complaining, I still like my computer. As well, I would prefer a $100 giftcard to an 8gb iPod touch. I already have an iPhone and there are apps for both Mac and iOS that I would definitely use it on, and my girlfriend's 8 gb iPod touch from last year's back to school just sits there. I think it's been used like twice.

I understand why some people don't like the gift card if you never use the App Store/iTunes, but there are actually some pretty good apps for Mac in the App Store and you can spend the $100 and be done with it forever. I don't understand the extreme hate for the App Store that some people have.
