If you squint and look between the lines you can just make out a baby crying for his jailbreak.

I've been happily jailbroken since 3.0, thank you very much. If you bothered to read my posts, you'd notice that I couldn't care either way. I'm still very much jailbroken and unlocked on 3.1.2, and remain that way. You just don't know much, if anything at all, about coding or any type of planning from an auditing or IT perspective.

But I digress, and defer to you, oh master of all mighty assumptions.

2nd bottom line: if it's Dev Team's goal to help as many new or would-be users get on the iPhone/unlock train, then they should try to release exploits every chance they get. Problem with this is, though, that Apple has infinitely more resources to throw at patching and closing exploits.

The DevTeam has publicly stated on several previous firmware releases that their goal is to help as many in the jailbreak community as possible.

So a few thousand iPhone owners who need to be unlocked updated to 3.1.3 and lost their unlock. The 3.1.3 firmware brings almost no advantages and plenty of disadvantages.

When the 3.2 or 4.0 (likely) firmware is released, it will surely bring a wealth of new advantages along with either the 5.12.xx baseband or a newer baseband.

Literally millions in the jailbreak community will have a reason to update to the newer firmware, along with the included baseband update. An a portion of those will need the new unlock to be available.

It is a very easy decision for me and the others here with some experience in the jailbreak community to make as we look at the big picture. I believe the DevTeam has a similar outlook based on their past practices and statements.

It all comes down to the premise of an old Star Trek show I remember "The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few".

Should this exploit be exposed for a minor firmware release which has only been adopted by less than 20% of iPhone users (per AppleInsider) who knows how long until another exploit is found.
