This can’t be done on older phones, this is only possible with the new A17 Pro architecture!
Jokes beside… still have some hope to see it in the near future for all iPhones.

Coconut Battery App used to run natively on iOS 9 - giving all the reported info on the battery right onthe iPhone....until Apple axed that ability in iOS 10 and beyond, hiding it.
Why?
Conspiracy theory advocates can fill in the blanks.

I think they don’t want it on any devices but the 15 pro battery is so damn bad they had to add it in last minute.

90 mins of screen time and I’m down to 65%.

I'd much rather just pay $100 every 2 years for a new battery than live with 80% of its capacity every day. The amount of time and energy some people waste on trying to make their battery last an extra 6 months is totally worthless.

I know when I want the information on my battery, the first thing I think is, "I bet it's on the page that tells me what version of iOS I'm running!"

That's the first place I checked when I heard about the feature so seems pretty logical to me.

Agreed. Though I've read of a few good uses for the feature, like enabling it on a long road trip so you can leave the phone plugged in.

joking aside, there's no way apple will gatekeep on this for sales reasons. this isn't something that people will upgrade for. so there must be some reason why this is the case.

That is a nice use case. Hopefully they add this option to control center so you don’t have to fumble around the settings. I just can’t see this being a set it and forget it setting for most people.

This, combined with batteries that have high degradation, is in my opinion just a strategy to make it harder to sell one or two year old models on the second hand market.
People are being totally brainwashed and I struggled a lot selling my 14 pro because of the 88% battery health.

I really start hating apple. Greenwashing on one end and every way to sell you battery, phones and chargers on the other.

Why would Apple care? I would think the opposite is true—the fact that iPhones retain far more value than any other phone is a feature, not a bug.

Your theory also makes no sense...if it were true, why would Apple release the feature at all?

As Said, there are good uses for it. If my iPhone 14 pro would have this 80% limit I would use the Stand By mode all the time. I dont like the thought of having my iPhone be charging at 100% for like 12 hours every day, but it’d be better with 80. And I absolutely don’t trust the automatic old limit

And as many MR users have admonished me, Apple cares about user experience and Apple engineers know much better than I do, so if a feature is not on my device, no matter how absurd it seems, it's because it would have ruined my experience and I am better off without it. 🙏
Just trolling I hope.
How does adding this feature to previous iPhones impact UX?

Sarcastic but not exactly trolling since this is what many MR users have said to me when I protested some of Apple's decisions.

Right, it has nothing to do with UX or performance. But this has not stopped many users from using this reason/speculation to defend Apple on a variety of issues.

Now when I have to sell my iPhone each year people are going to ask for a cycle count 😒

They should already have been doing that — if they were smart consumers! Indeed, ethical sellers should reveal that, along with the battery health, in any Apple device they are selling (well, any whose specs can be read by, say, Coconut Battery or iStats.

Antiprotest was not trolling at all; just offering brilliant satire!

Twice now my iPhone 15PM stopped charging at 85% even though the 80% threshold was set.

Rebooted in between these charges and it still doesn’t work consistently for me.

It is a strange choice (IMO) to release battery limit charging for all watches that can ran WatchOS 10.x but nope, only iPhone 15+ can have it...
