CarPlay works on 2015 Honda CR-V, and they had a pilot program selecting certain new CR-V buyers to test drive the software for them. Yet, they pulled the plug...

Detroit still has an auto show?

I thought it was just a 3rd world city now.
It is one of the largest auto show in North America.
They couldn't possibly pull that out from Detroit since it is the automotive heartland.

You may be able to get one at your local Mazda dealership for $99 later this year

Come on Mazda. Your v55 infotainment update already has some references about it for the 2016 Mazda6 (can't speak for other models):

rootfs1upd/jci/gui/apps/system/js/systemApp.js: { appData : { appName : 'carplay', isVisible : false, mmuiEvent : 'SelectCarPlay' }, text1Id : 'CarPlay', disabled : true, itemStyle : 'style01', hasCaret : false },

There is even a directory of CarPlay resources:

rootfs1upd/rootfs/jci/gui/resources/js/carplay

Just get it together please.
So long as they push it out to older models (2015) then I will be happy.

From what I have heard, the 16 is the first year that the hardware supports it. No one will know until, and if, they release.

Highly unlikely is not a cocksure or uppity statement. It's like you telling me that you're going to stream Netflix over dialup, and I'm going to tell you "highly unlikely". Sorry that you don't like the choice of words but I could have just been completely certain and said "no", it's that cut and dry. Apple leverages WiFi for music with AirPlay, let alone video, they're not going to suddenly switch to an underperforming method. How about I just say that I'm 99.99999999% certain that BT will not be used for anything but negotiating the connection?

WiFi isn't all that's left, AirPlay and WiDi both use that WiFi radio.

It is in the context of your post where you are disagreeing with VW and Apple who seem to be suggesting wireless Airplay is near launch. It says "I know more than the companies who designed and implemented it." You can make your guesses, sure, but you really have no basis for "highly unlikely." But if you do, as I said in my other response to you, take it up with Apple and VW.

It's also 100% different situation than your example of Netflix over dialup. Both Netflix and dialup are known quantities. We know the bandwidth even SD video requires. We know the speed of dialup. When you can plug in all the variables it's easy to get an answer. But the variable as to whether Apple is using BT or WiFi or both still unknown. Both are possibilities. BT integration with smartphones already exist in cars. In fact my phone control in my car is no different over BT than if I plugged it in to USB. The only difference is USB keeps the phone charged.

Suit yourself. I'm also in Michigan and could never go back to a car that doesn't have a heated steering wheel, heated seats, back up camera, keyless /proximity unlock/start... The list goes on. I fail to see how it's an annoyance but to each their own!

I prefer simplicity. Less to break. Less to fix. Less to spend on repairs.

I am looking at getting another car and stopped my local Honda dealer (I currently own a Honda) to see what the new models look like. When we got into a discussion about Apple/Google, the Honda in-house "guru" basically said that if you are everything iOS, go Apple. For everyone else go Google. He said (and showed me) that Apple has no flexibility and you either use their function/version or do without. The only area that had any alternative options was Music.
Based on the demonstration - I'll be going Google in my next car. After hearing all the hype, I was disappointed with Apple's offering.

Does it let me post selfies whilst I'm driving in my new car? That's all I care about. It's a good thing Apple included a selfie shortcut, now I can post them quicker then ever!

Following up on this, the new Mercedes Benz 2017 GLS450 is available for ordering with CarPlay as an option. Haven't seen it mentioned.

Not on the list yet, but Mercedes Benz' docs state the GLS (new version of the GL 450 etc) has it available. (In all likelihood this means a lot of other 2016 MBs will have it available).

From a MB document called "Equipment list for X166 2015 Facelift" - the 2017 GLS which is to be released in March 2016:

page 14:

And from a document called "Availability (GLS Class X166 2015 Facelift)":

So you can order it using the 14U in combination with command

My 2016 Volt has CarPlay and I will get a free update to Android Auto this year when it is available. A major factor in buying my car.

It's better to make sure a car actually has CarPlay or Android Auto when you actually buy it. I believe Mercedes showed CarPlay running on their C Class 2 years ago and still nothing. I also doubt it will be up upgradable for older models.

Yeah, well my car has CP and AA now so...

The AA update was in writing.
