sorry i thought it was obvious lol

i meant, why would apple deny an app allowing a iPod touch camera to take photo's?

If the touch DOES get the camera it better be 3.0 megapixels with flash and zoom. Of course it won't get it because the rumors suggest that it will get the nano's 2.2 megapixels which sucks:(

either im badly missing something totally obvious or lunacy has reached new levels,

what else would a camera be used for other then photo's and video? :X:

Apple's not going to put a full-fledged camera in the Touch for one simple reason - they want you to buy the iPhone. There's no kickback to Apple for purchasing the Touch like there is with the iPhone. It's the same reason they charge Touch users a fee for major upgrades to the iPhone OS. So they'll give you just enough features in the Touch to entice you into considering buying the phone.

Jobs made it clear that if they were to allow still-camera functionality that they would also include the auto-focus feature from the iPhone 3GS. Yes, the camera may be capable of taking still pictures, but Apple isn't allowing users to take advantage of it because, ideally, they want to pack more hardware in to improve it first.

I'm aware of that. I was simply correcting the factual error in your previous post.

The chance of Apple approving a hack that allows the iPod Touch's video-only camera to take pictures in the form of an iTunes App Store based App is zero. This probably has to do with the hacking portion of the app.

Perhaps they could position it as a replacement to your Digital Camera, Flip HD camera, and MP3 player..

I could tell you right now, the camera on the nanos and the 3GS could be of no replacement of my camera, and my camera is nothing special. I have a Cannon PowerShot SD1100 IS Digital ELPH (basically, a midrange consumer point and shoot camera, take pics up to 8MP, and shoots video in 640x480 @30 FPS). Yes, the nano may also take 640x480 video at 30 FPS, but the quality still does not compare. Look at this video, the nano's video is clearly inferior by a large margin.

That was an exceptionally boring video. Whats with the US flags on the trains - do passengers occasionally forget what country they are in?

Video only would be kind of pointless, you could just open the video camera and press home button + power button to get a still shot.

It would be a lot easier for them to incorporate the API from the iPhone 3GS with the lack of autofocus.

just get an iphone, im getting tired of itouch getting to many features, lucky you even got the touch screen on it.

Yeah because obviously a device with TOO many features would have less features (no touch screen as you implied).

What is wrong with Apple? A camera in the iPhone makes sense to them, but not in an almost exact copy. Do they really think a still camera is the one feature that will push a buyer into a horridly overpriced, two-year contract with the iPhone?

That really is an exceptionally boring video. And shaky.

They started putting flag stickers on the NYC subway right after 9/11.

The US has a truly remarkable habit of sticking flags on things--even when there is no border for hundreds or thousands of miles.

Uh, Canada and Mexico aren't that far away...

I do agree it's silly to put your own flags on things. Especially in NYC where half the people aren't even from America. :p
