Not exactly true.
Older 35mm movie content is being scanned by the big studios at up to 16K. I remember watching this on an episode of "Click" on BBC News 24 a couple of years ago now, so perhaps they are going even higher now (if that's needed?).

I've been watching Star Trek - TNG again, which was filmed on 35mm and completely re-mastered for BlueRay release and it is stunning.

Aside from the 4:3 and film grain, this TV show still looks modern

Since Apple can make their own chips, I suppose they don't have to wait for Intel to ramp a general purpose chip for 1.4a. I do wonder therefore if Apple can make an external display connector that can support 8k or with a splitter 8x1k or 2x4k? Now that 4K content has gone "to consumer" (Netflix...), I suspect theatrical movie display resolution will migrate to 8k+ and with Red Cine offering up to 24k cameras, and the ability to natively edit that in Final Cut Pro already, we may see a high resolution rennissance.

Newsweek is one of many outlets to report that Wikileaks' latest dump is a trove of Sony's company emails and other documents that consists of even more individual pieces than the 200,000-plus leaked in April. Included, says the Newsweek story, are "276,394 Sony Corp. communications, including email, travel calendars, contact lists, expense reports and private files." One interesting tidbit revealed by the documents thus revealed, spotted by Apple Insider, is that "Apple requested [from Sony] 4K content for potential digital distribution and on-demand services testing nearly two years ago, suggesting the company has been exploring ultra high-definition streaming for some time."
